I know Astra African Daisies are annuals... and annuals are only good for one growing season. I'm pretty sure mine are unfortunately finished blooming. I told my mother I was going to dig them up and plant something new in their container. She told me not to trash them. That if I put them in a small container and can manage to keep them alive during the winter, there's a good chance of them re-blooming next spring. She was able to do this with her dianthus from last year. Is there a chance I could pull this off with my daisies? Or would I be wasting my time? Any help would be great. Thanks!
Astra African Daisies?
They are actually perennials--the only reason you think of them as annuals is because your winters are too cold for them to survive. So if you can bring them in for the winter then they should be fine for next year.
Is that pretty much the case with most annuals? Or just certain ones like daisies and dianthus? Do they need special treatment in the winter? Or just keep 'em indoors and continue watering them as usual?
There are some annuals that are true annuals and will die after a year even in a warm zone, but there are plenty of things also that are actually tender perennials so you could keep them over the winter if you wanted to. For the winter, I'd keep them somewhere that they can get some light and you do need to keep watering them, but they won't go through water as fast in the winter as they would in the summer so you'll have to water less frequently.
These are perennials in my zone 10b. Our winters are mild not below 5c.
