Can you suggest a plant that will bloom in low sun conditions and offer a lot of color? I live in a pine forest, but have an entranceway that gets a bit of sun, maybe 3 hours a day. I have put ajuga on one side of this entrance, which is doing well. . I'd like another groundcover on the other side. I've tried thyme which wont bloom because of the low light. Then I tried transplanting a beautiful pink weed that was growing in shade- none survived. Should not be something with high water need- i have to carry the water down there from a distance. Also would like to avoid white or red. Suggestions?

Some good suggestions there- I would also add astilbe, although I don't always have good luck getting it to bloom. I think it depends on the variety, or perhaps our pH (high) has something to do with it.
Also creeping lysimachia, which seems to grow in sun or shade, though of course is going to flower better in sun(but, the yellow-leaved variety gives nice color even without flowering)
One note- some lamiums are not so aggressive as archangel. I have it (archangel)- I sprayed it with roundup and not a single leaf curled! But depending on where you are putting it, it does have a pretty leaf and pretty yellow flowers in the spring. However, if you want to try it, don't spend money on it- I'd be happy to send you some to try. It definitely WILL take over the area, though, so beware! Dmail me if you'd like to try it out-
Jill
Thank you - lots of stuff here, still checking them out. Jill I dont know how to contact you directly- I'm trying to find an image of the lamium. My computer is acting up, and it takes a long time to navigate sites.
