I will say that the Peony is not a fern leaf. My tuber has sprouted leaves.
Do I owe anyone anything?

Still waiting for my trade..........
I too, dont think mine is a fern leaf peony..LOL and she very generously sent me some Louisiana irises for postage prob 6 of them, UPS 2nd day air when I asked her the price of shipping she said 26.00...She offered to split it with me tho.. Good thing because I'd have to make monthly installments or something at that rate..I'm proud of the irises (I hope) but I cant afford that type of shipping.. I will just have to keep on complaining about the good ole USPS....
Something is up with the shipping as well. She sent my 'thing' overnite !!! It was $32 for a root. Her excuse was - I don't like USPS - for heaven sakes!!!!
There is something VERY wrong with this. No one with any sense sends out plants for $32 to get a few babies in the mail.
HERE is my exchange with her:

What are you asking for trade or just postage? Let me know. What color - red? And it's an old peony so I bet it is huge. I have a 1910 home and would love to have a good size root for this old house.
Let me know

Let's see, I have corkscrew willow tree starts (easy to start and really cook trees). That's something very different and I like to braid young trees so they are really cool when they get larger. I have cuttings up to 3 or 4 ft. Tons of seeds from zinnia, hollyhock, scarlet runner bean, etc. I have a small (10 inches maybe) golden chain tree - I received 4 in a trade and they are planted and doing ok for babies. They grow quickly - should be 4 feet tall by fall according to the owner. I can compile a large group of all of these to send. Give me some idea of what you're thinking from the above.

The chain tree is tiny. And the cuttings from the willow is easy - honestly, just put it in water in a vase or bucket and the roots will grow more in 2 weeks - they probably are ready to plant now. To prove how easy they are to grow - we cut one tree down and there was a 3 foot log in the wood pile and after 2 months there are shoots and leaves growing from it - it doesn't have any contact with soil and is a cut 3 foot log. The trees are so cool.
What else can I send you besides the chain tree - it's small for the postage you are sending the root.
Do you want $ to help with postage because the tree is only 10 inches tall - and I'll send corkscrew so you can see how easy it is. Seeds???

Ok but the golden chain tree MAY be 10 inches. They are healthy and I watered them today but they are planted in ground. I'll dig and send that and several corkscrew willow trees. I really want to send you something else. I do have several small (8=10 inch) elm and oak seedlings if you are really into the trees. I have some baby Rose of Sharon coming up but not sure of the color - maybe lavender. If you want those too. I just feel I need to send you more than the tiny trees for the roots you are sending me.

It hopefully won't rain today. It's been raining most of the past 3 days. I dmailed with catbirdsue in WVa and she had not gotten your peony yet. She was one of the first people I traded plants with when I joined DG in 2004. She is a nice lady. She said she sent yours plants out and was anxious to get the peony.
Ok, so you want:
corkscrew willow tree starts
1 golden chain tree
several rose of sharon trees
I just realized I missed the info about your son. I'm so sorry to hear that. I don't know how I missed reading that post. No problem - life happens. There are some people on DG that will take advantage of good hearted trading and you have to be sure before doing trades. I have tons of great friends here and really have built my garden on those trades. I'll work on your box - hopefully the rain will not come today.
Let me know if you want more than I've listed here - do you like Iris? Do you want seeds for scarlet runner bean or hollyhock? I have black hollyhock and also Old Man On The Mountain seeds which are stunning plants. They grow fast and reseed. LMK

I haven't gotten your package out - obviously. I have to say I'm concerned with this peony being 'a peony' or one that will produce. There are no eyes on it, nothing that seems more than the hardened out old part of the peony. I even posted it on the peony thread after Oldgardenrose posted her OLD peony which seemed a lot like this one and she is the expert on peony. I will get you some things together but there are no eyes on this as I dug it up after being planted since it's arrival and there is no sign of any roots or sprouts. Did you divide the peony watching for eyes?

what is your problem, dont you have anything better to do than beat a dead horse
Dead Horse?? So does that statement mean you have no intention on making your trades proper? I've been following this for some time and I'm sure others have been too... makes people extremely leary...especially when things aren't being made right.
I'm sorry things like this happen, personal or not, but if you are wronged, you know you want it made right.
I have thats my point
i do not have an opinion on this that i wish to share
but i did notice someones address in the post above and i think i would edit that out -
I do have an opinion on this person. She posted asking for cuttings to trade. I contacted her and our 'conversation' per d-mail went much like shihtzumom's posted above. I told her my cuttings were very valuable and gave her a list of items from her have list I would like and stated what I had that I could trade. She said - oh yeah, great - i'll take anything !!! With her tons of exclamation marks all the time. After the agreement I remembered that maybe I should check her out - so that's when I saw that she had several negative feedbacks. So I told her that I would like to wait to send my box until I saw that hers had been sent out or I recieved it. She sent me a tracking number, I checked it on ups.com and told her that I would send my box out. A couple days later I realized that the number was just a billing and not a shipping number, so I checked it again and ups.com said they had not recieved the package from the sender. So I dmailed her and a day or two later it finally showed that they had recieved the package. So I sent mine out. She paid supposedly plenty for 2 day air - yet the box took at least a week to arrive. The cuttings had rotted and were moldy. I tried to root them and they all dried up and died, if not dead already.
On another post she stated that she didn't do well with cuttings - well duh ! Obviously she didn't know how or where to cut what she sent to me and none of it made it. None of it was labeled, and so she may have just sent me some chunks from some bush somewhere in the neighborhood. She taught me a lesson about trading alright !
However, here is my dilemma. Why is DG allowing this person to continue being a member and doing trades when she is obviously not an honest trader?? She doesn't have any good reasons or can't even bother to apologize.
The real doozy is this : I checked her trade list after she recieved my box and ALL of the cuttings I sent to her were listed there on her Have to Trade list - she told me that the have to trade list was her journal, since she didn't have her journal set up. I don't buy it. And I'm still upset that I allowed myself to get into a trade with somone who obviously doesn't care about making a fair trade... I hope that no one else gets caught up with her.
Hi you all :-)
I received a piece of a double red peony from Marie which is a heirloom and I am very happy with that.It HAS 5 or even 6 eyes. That was the 1st box.2 day air, sent immediately !!
The 2nd box contained a smaller piece of a peony root, stems but no eyes. But I thought the eyes had turned into the stems already ? ( the piece had 2 stems ) which I planted together with a loose stem just to see what will happen ? it was sent overnight together with 2 blossoms which lasted 1 week and had the most wonderful scent. It is pink and white and I am hopeful that what I planted will produce some eyes in the future.
I sent her a $ 20 check for postage some time ago which Marie has not cashed yet.
THEN she sent me a 3rd box with I think Louisiana irises ( I think ) which she wanted me to try anyway.I had said that I thought they wouldn't do good here in Maine.
***
Now I was never promised a fern leaf peony so maybe mine was another double red.Could it be that the elderly lady or Marie made a mistake with ID ? mistakes happen, maybe they meant the shape of the flower petals ?
Obviously I am not familiar with all of your trades.Just trying to be some kind of a peace keeper here.I never checked Marie's feedback before but NOW I see many negatives and I am wondering if all of them were necessary ? they can't be taken back.
She IS new and probably got in over her head in anticipation of belonging to the group of traders and got behind which easily can be done especially the amount of trades Marie has undertaken.
I don't know Marie and only exchanged a few d-mails concerning the peonies she sent but even after reading the negatives I have no doubt that she will send me her trade this summer since she is my trade partner for the NOID TB iris.I have faith and I believe that she will fulfill all of your trades which she is late on.
PS:I also read about her son but also noticed that she has a decorating business ( label on the box ) so she must be busy. Most likely there was no harm intended.
I just made a trade with Marie. She is sending me a large box of different varieties of Irises along with La Irises. She is sending UPS 2nd day air. It should be here tomorrow.
In return I sent her a very large miniature Banana Plant, an Upright EE, 2 different types of Ginger, Spider Lily, and and 4-5 Cannas. To send UPS 2nd day air, it would have cost me over $36.00, so I had to send by priority mail which was a little over $12.00. I am a newbie also and just felt the need to be kind and generous. I do expect to get something in return, but if I don't it's ok. I don't know why I feel this way at this time, but I do. I guess, because I have had someone to send me a large box of named Tall Bearded Irises and a nice book on Irises with nothing expected in return.
I think Marie may be young and probably did get in over her head with trades and a child in the hospital. I feel that she is sending UPS 2nd day air to try to make up for some of the things that have taken place. Maybe things just got off to a bad start. She has had some good feedback since the bad. Maybe she's really trying to get everything together.
I do expect to get something in return, but if I don't it's ok. from angedawn47
Wow!!! That is not Ok for Most of us. And you made this trade recently??????
Ohhh my goodness..shaking my head.
I have sent her trade and sent a tracking number to confirm
I am finding it hard to believe people are paying these shipping charges. I would have refused to agree to that right there. It just makes no sense to me at all. I almost responded to one of her posts. SO glad I didn't.
i'm glad that you didnt either, I try to split the postage if they dont have a trade. I can afford it so you shouldnt look down on me for that
I didnt know It was being shipped UPS 2nd day air untill It got here, I assumed it was coming priority mail USPS.. My Mom always had a saying about assuming things..
Im not saying Marie is a terrible person.. She sent me some nice plants(Tho one wasnt a particular type, guess I can live with that)..I sent her some nice plants in exchange..Then she sent me flowers for postage..I was shocked when UPS delivered them. She offered to cover part of the shipping, and I explained to her in an email how much cheaper on her and every one here it would be if she used USPS and just got a tracking number.. If she is having to pay to give her flowers away she might as well set them on the street corner and let people get them for free..
For those that didnt get seeds, plants or whose plants werent viable, I can understand your frustrations..
I can also say my youngest son was involved in an accident and was hospitalized for 28 days earlier this year, I notified each person I had trades open with by a quick letter, but I sure wasnt online from the Hosp making more trades..
Lol.. I certainly dont look down on you for that girl..if you got it.. go for it..Just remember alot of us here dont thats why we trade instead of going to the stores to buy, or why we get excited when we it for postage, but if postage cost us more than going to the store then weve wasted our time and money..
Ok...This is my last Post here. I have followed from the very beginning and even received my trade Although it is not a Fern Leaf Peony. Marie we wish you the Best. Google tells me this is where my package went to.. It's public info and I'm not trying to be funny. But here is the business and all the other stuff. It is BEST BUY FLOORINGS.....ain't no gardens there! LOL It's a shame this has escalated as such.
Wait for the picture of the actual business to load after clicking the link : http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=7905+2nd+st+Turner,+or+97392&sll=44.841462,-122.951116&sspn=0.010376,0.01929&gl=us&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=7905+2nd+St+SE,+Turner,+Marion,+Oregon+97392&t=h&z=16&iwloc=A&layer=c&cbll=44.841804,-122.951244&panoid=cXqL3piV19ZWRvB39eZ0qg&cbp=12,165.14,,0,5
Last But Not Least...
You can use UPS to ship all day and night without money! They will Bill you at the end of the month. You don't need money at first until 30 days later when the HUGE bill comes in...
This message was edited Jun 15, 2010 8:00 PM
I am not sure trading is really worth all the hassle. Postage seems to have costs me more than buying plants so far. And I'm not talking about being generous at times. I'm talking about trade for trade. Of course, if you can make a large trade it could be well worth it. The one I sent Marie was well worth the $12 or so. It makes more sense for me to send 6 types of nice plants for $12.00 than 1 plant for $6.00. If I didn't have faith that Marie would come through, I wouldn't have traded.
I have found that when most people who consider themselves honest ask for postage they want to charge you more than the postage costs them; I think they are making up for their time and money and I think we should be notified of that in advance. Then it is disappointing to get half dead plants in the mail after you paid them the extra they asked for.
Some people do have money. And they would rather pay for the convenience than the hassle of taking things to the PO and waiting in line. I'm not saying that I have a lot of money. I am actually very frugal, but I get the most satisfaction from giving than recieving. I guess it goes back to the way I was raised. My mom always gave flowers away and got them in return. Last year I gave away tons of her daylilies, I mean huge clumps. This year they have well replaced themselves, and I want someone to come and dig them up before they take over the Tiger Lilies and Irises. This is part of why I feel that you will come out better in the long run for being generous. In return for the lilies, I got roses and all kinds of plants, not to mention the Lilies replacing themselves.
Please don't think I blame anyone for being upset about your trade. I completely understand. For some strange reason, I just have a peace about my trade. I feel that I did the right thing by sending her the plants.
that not correct, if you have an account you must give them your credit card number and they run your card weekly. And yes, I do own a business that I use to get my packages as I dont have a mail box out in the country and the postoffice is way to far, what is your point!
I'm sure if I had a child in the hospital, I would be more than happy to have my computer with me. It can be very boring sitting in a hospital room, especially when the patient is asleep. Also, if you are worried it is good too keep your mind on something else. Dave's Garden can keep you very well educated plant wise and occupy your mind for hours.
I'm not criticizing, just looking the situation from another angle.
Now that I put my 2 cents in, I need to get busy and finish my quilt blocks for the Christmas Block Swap on Dave's Garden.
Lol, see I didn't get off. I just wanted to add something else, Just because I am concerned about trading plants this time of year doesn't mean that I don't take care of them and nurse dying things back to health.
I just live in a very different environment than some of you and it's hard to understand the heat and humidity here, just like it would be hard for me to understand how snow and ice would be. I know a landscaper that just put out some things and they died already. If you don't think the climate makes a difference, go look at Zydeco's website in Metarie, LA and see what they say about shipping and why they wait until the fall. He explains it all very well.
And one more thing. I had a garage sale in March and people were trying to buy my plants all morning. So that is a good option if you want to make a little money. I plan to have another garage sale towards the end of summer. And sale plants if nothing else.
I got 28 Sago Palm pups this year and almost ditched them, but planted them in pots around my Oak Tree. Most didn't have roots, and I was told that they could take 6 mths. to 2 years to root if ever. Now more than half of them have beautiful fronds. I am thrilled by them.
I would think that Marie posted this to try and make things right. At this point maybe Marie should try to reimburse with money to those who are so unhappy. It would be a whole lot cheaper and a lot less trouble. Chances are plants wouldn't make unhappy people feel better now.
I know that it would not be ok with most of you to send so many plants with no expectations of anything in return. But, there are still people that love to do that. And I happen to be one of them. I recieved Chinese Ground Orchids this spring. I traded all, but 2 or 3. Why? That's the way I am, and it makes me feel so good to make others happy and to surprise others. You may never know what a difference you have made in someones life with just a little bit of kindness.
I have sent things to traders with excellent feedback and it has taken some over a month to send something back. It's kind of like references for a job. Sometimes they are useful, but many times they are bogus. My husband hires people, and sometimes the present employer will give an excellent reference to get rid of someone. That has only happened once, and pray it doesn't happen again. Life is like a box of chocolates....
Okkkkk!! I said I wasn't going to say anymore but OHHHH my Goodness!!
angedawn47 We understand your point, all what you are saying sounds great and noble, and I'm sure we have ALL given away plants and have done a Postage send. No ones being stingy and it's not just plants...per se. It's principal.
LOOK...Not all of my plants have that kind of "I can just give away value" And I especially don't play games with trading. If I TRADE for a plant, I WANT the plant I traded for. Because you BEST believe you will be getting the Correct Species and Genus of plant you traded for. I don't grow just anything and I don't want just anything. And if I send one of my Plants in Trade it isn't because I don't want the Plant..It's that I AM WILLING to GIVE IT IN EXCHANGE FOR SOMETHING ELSE OF VALUE TO ME.
For example.. Last year I traded for 2 specific plants. And this year both have matured are not what I traded for. Considering the Plants I let go for these 2 plants (which I would have NEVER traded them unless I was acquiring something I wanted)
For them not to be the Plants I traded for... I contacted the person and let them know (it's been a year). Of course that person just about ripped my head off and was livid!!!! Told me I was a theif, what did I want, how did she know I just didn't kill them and want new plants...Blah blah blah.
The Plants are still alive...MY POINT IS.......I WANT THE PLANTS I TRADED FOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! because you best believe I am going to send the Correct Species and Genus!! or Cultivar
Now I have a Tray of babies of these currently growing: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/62232/
And these: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/170915/
And they are not on my HAVE Trade list... but Currently can't trade underneath it. To show people what I have..
After the HARDSHIP of germinating them. keeping them alive, and caring for them..Am I suppose to just give them away when they are so valuable???
I'm getting off of here...I'm going back to minding my own business. Sorry for anyone who hasn't gotten their end. I understand and feel your concerns and anger.
Kim_M...those Bolivian Nasturtium 'Tropaeolum tricolor' are absolutly beautiful!!! a whole tray ya say?? *S* Wonder what one would have to do to get one of those? ~giggles~
Don't know why this thread is closed. I think people have a right to speak their mind. For those who lost money and plants this the only way they can voice it and several have not posted here that have lost plants. Kim your post is perfectly stated. Thanks for stating that when we trade for a special item and send our special plants it's important to us. I don't have plants in my yard that I "just want to get rid of" or they would go to my neighbor for no effort or cost. Which I have done to help a new gardener get started - iris and ditch lilies, etc. But now my garden contains special things to me and I would never trade anything here unless it was for something I wanted MORE.
What a rip off.
Kim, I completely understand. I always try and let people know if I'm not sure about the cultivar of my plants. Please know that I was not insinuiating that one should just throw away their most valuable plants. I was referring to the comment that was made on how it would be better to place plants by the street. Also, I was only trying to make a point of why I sometimes I feel generous. I like to give when I can.
If someone contacted me a year later about a trade and they didn't recieve the correct plant. I would bend over backwards to make it right. That's why thought that maybe it would be better for Marie to send money to those not happy now. I just want the people happy with their trade. Making the other end happy is very high on my list.
I think it's to little to late for this trade person to send plants - as you stated. Refunds of shipping cost will help but then there's the plants that are of value too. Such a shame that people take advantage of others like this. And why on earth anyone would ship ANY plant for $32 is beyond me. Her excuse was 'she didn't trust the USPS' - that's called insurance for $2 in a flat rate box for $10.
Remember, the peony trade started MAY 19. It's June 16 and look how far behind things are. If it were a 2 weeks that may be different but a month!
Kim,
You've made your point and we all know it. What's done is done, and it can't be changed now. What would make you happy now? Should Marie sent the plant back? Should she reimburse you for the time, trouble, and mishap? What can she do at this point? I'm just curious?
Regarding the sent packages for postage. Maybe, I don't understand how this works. Is it general practice that postage may be $10 or $12 more than it actually cost to send the plants. If this is how things are done, then newbies should be informed.
I understand the long trades. I've had some myself from excellent traders. Things happen in peoples lives. It's hard to put your life on hold sometimes while expecting a package. If you need to go out of town and were planning on it, but expecting a package during that time that was promised weeks ago it's hard to work around it.
Would reimbursement for the value of the original plant sent be satisfactory along with reimbursement for postage, etc.
I'm going to intervene here, and remind everyone of some general ground rules of trading (and why we strongly discourage threads like this.)
If you have not received your trade, this thread is for you, and only for you. Your situation is the only one that is allowing this thread to remain up. We have advised this member to not enter any additional trades until all current trades have been received, so if you have not received yours, now would be a good time to speak up and let her know what is owed to you.
If you are unhappy with the trade you received from this trader, you should attempt to work it out via dmail or email. If that has not resulted in a mutually satisfactory outcome, you can choose to leave feedback for one another, and/or rebuttals, if needed. That's why we offer the feedback tools. But no more posting in this thread or any others; any other posts of that nature will be removed.
If you are happy with the trade you received from this trader, you also can choose to leave her some feedback on her feedback page - or not. It's entirely up to you. Again, this thread is not the place to go back and forth with those who are unhappy with their trade, or who have not received their trade.
If you did not have a trade with this person, you don't have a proverbial dog in the hunt, and it would be best to ignore the thread.
I do have some plants that I consider valuable. Some not listed. As soon as I can propagate them, I plan to share them too.
I may never buy a $200 daylily, and don't intend to. Would I share it if I did? To someone that would really appreciate it yes. But, not just for what I can get from it. And, new plants are what I'm here for.
I'm not referring to this forum, but newbies, as well as others, get a feel for things and the way we are treated, as in your case. Those things are never forgotten and are remember for future trades. Not saying that I haven't been happy here, because I have.
Terry, if everyone who did not have a trade with this person ignored this thread, then who's to say they wouldn't be the next to be had.
((although we bystanders SHOULD hold our tongue, but sometimes a question or comment just has to be done)).
Thank you, I do have a trade with this person.
I'm glad you have intervened, because I feel that enough has been said.
