Morning Glories 2010 #04

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Nice set up Joseph. Looking forward to all your lovely blooms.

Thanks, Jackie, I hope there are some treasures out there on the deck.

Looking really good there.. I love your idea of making the living fence.

Nice concept Joseph, but trust me ... your vines are too close together. It will become more than a living fence! LOL! It will become a barricade of vines! LOL! MY containers are a foot apart and they are trying to climb all over each other. They get pretty heavy, too! :-) I wonder what the distance is between JMG vines that they grow at the Japanese universities?

Tokyo, Japan(Zone 10a)

Don't know about the universities but here seed packs suggest 300mm apart which is about 1 foot, the interesting thing is that transplants are usually sold two plants together in a 4" pot and pinched. The Japanese do seem to get some pretty good results so I'm sticking with them LOL! Obviously soil climate and other factors play a major part in just how these plants perform in the garden,

Mr. Joseph, I suggest you fly a small American flag at the top of your new trellis for Memorial day.

Great idea, John, will do. Thanks everyone for your advice. I planted only one type of purpurea and one type of nil so the thicker I can get with the living fence the better!

Virginia Beach, VA(Zone 7b)

I looked at my Count Dracula this morning and two more flowers,
but this time they are blue, very interesting.

I love your Count Dracula. Very cool with the dk color in the middle.

zinniared - Your Count Dracula vine looks pretty typical to me of that cultivar. It is supposed to have light blue petals with the darker eye. As the bloom ages during the day, it becomes more washed out. Mornings are best for viewing and photographing any MGs as you get their true colors. Your CD is beautiful!

Here is a link to the one I grew in previous years for comparison: http://davesgarden.com/community/blogs/t/beckygardener/9400/
