i have a (directly) west facing yard that is a complete blank slate. it's around 15'x30'. what would be the perfect flowering perennials suitable for this area? thanks peeps ^_^!
plant ideas
Here are some that I grow in my west facing yard (some are shrubs vs perennials, but if you want a little variety I'd consider them too) Gaillardia, Gazania, Lavender (several different species), Salvia (several species...greggii, microphylla, canariensis), Phygelius, Romneya, Anisodontea, Grevillea, Callistemon, hollyhock, Chilopsis, rosemary, Chamelaucium, Nierembergia, Cestrum, Nepeta, Sedum, Thyme, Echium, Oleander, Buddleia, Erysimum. And a lot of others too that I'm just not remembering off the top of my head--I'll try to look out there when I get home from work and list ones that I missed.
wow E, that's a lot of plants! ^_^ I'll check them all out. You must have an awesome yard! ^_^ thanks!
And don't forget all the roses you had to dig up....grin
Oh we dug them up already, moon ^_^! We've put them right there too just hoping they won't croak :)... No yellowing... YET. I kinda severely pruned the biggest one since it got mangled during the trip. it's been about 4 days since we plugged them in the ground and so far i'm sorta weirded out that no yellowing is goin on... so i guess the yard isn't a "complete" blank slate cos it now has 3 FUGLY rose bushes ^_^... (that's another reason why i haven't posted their pics cos they're THAT fugly ^_^ plus they might croak any moment so i'm still waitin...)
Don't forget daylilies love the sun too.
Just don't tell the roses that they are fugly....they can get their feelings hurt so easily....LOL
my problem with daylilies is that there's too much foliage! :) Are there daylilies that bloom longer and more profusely than most? ^_^
moon, oh i never tell them that! only when i'm out of earshot ;)... oh but you should see how sad they look all bald and thorny :(... the weather's helpin tho cos it's been rainin a little and wayyyy cooler than normal for this time of the year in calif...
Chezca, there are a number of repeat blooming daylilies out there. Some are even evergreen giving you year round greenery.
