Here's the Brown-headed Cowbird feeding behind a female Cardinal.

Nice Shots Everyone!!!
Hack, I've got the 400mm f5.6. You lose autofocus with the 1.4x teleconverter. There is a way around it, by placing tape over some of the thingys where the lens joins the camera body. I tried it and although it worked, it was slow and I felt it was unreliable like that and never use it. You'll love that 400mm lens. The only time it frustrates me is when there is little contrast; it struggles to focus fast enough under those conditions. I took my 300mm out several weeks ago and it felt like a great, hulking dinosaur by comparison.
I also have the 400mm f5.6, but mine auto-focuses with the 1.4 converter...Tamron-F AF1 MC4 it may jog a lil sometimes but not enough for it to be too bothersome...however you can tell the difference in the lighting...compared to just the 400mm by itself. Here's a couple shots with the converter attached.
First is a Green Heron....it was hazy that day, the bird was about 75ft away.

Wow, those 2 pics look real good, Burd. Is your 1.4x the white colored one made by the Canon, or made by someone else? I ask because, tomorrow, I going to use my Tamron 1.4x and 2x. Lots have said the 2x costs too much light - I'll see.
Right now it is raining outside, hope the sun shines tomorrow.
Hack
Tamron 1.4 is what I have Hack, black in color.
I'm going to have to start the new thread a bit early. Beautiful birds throughout this thread. I'll close with a snap and grab shot of who I think is Big Hook overflying the nest this morning. Madame X reports that Dad and Big Hook are showing some romantic inclinations and that they spent some time on the nest together yesterday and Big Hook was back there again this morning.
Come on over here>>>>>>>> http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1099441/

Oh my I love all the shots eveyone took.
That acorn woodpecker is so beautiful
The scrub jay one with the deer is great.
This is not the best shot, sorry. Duc does this look like a tree swallow? This is the only time I have gotten to see the bird out of the nest. I know it is not a barn swallow. What do you think?
Amy
Amy, that may be an Eastern Phoebe, or an Eastern Kingbird. If there is a tip of white marking on the tail. It's the latter and not the first. Come and join us on the new thread.
