Still waiting for these little stinkers to fledge. If you would like to look at the last thread here is the link: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1093744/
Here is Dad on the top of the nest box.
My Little Chickadee's Pt. 3
We had a lot of cloudy weather today so I couldn't get many pics. When I went outside at 8pm to check on them one more time, it took a while but I finally saw one of the parents enter the box and could hear the chicks begging. In the meantime a Hummingbird was at the Honeysuckle vine. :-)
I love the pic with mom's tail shading dad...LOL
Can't wait to see the fledglings!!!!
So far this spring, I have seen fledglings for Brown Thrashers, Louisiana Waterthrush, Chickadees, Bluebirds, Mockingbirds and Cardinals ( in approximate order). The Chickadees and the LA Waterthrush are the only ones with multiple fledglings, and they really work the suet feeder! My Downy pair are regularly at the suet feeder, and I hope to see their fledgling(s) soon. Also haven't seen fledglings for the RH Woodpeckers yet. Hmmm, maybe soon. What a great time of year. Can't wait to see your pics of the Chickadee babes.
How lovely is that, Pelle. He obviously trusts you now. I am so looking forward to seeing the little ones. Oh, and beautiful shots.
Thanks Margaret. Yes he has always been very friendly, when I'm out at the feeders he comes within inches of me. I'm sure once the chicks are on their own Mom will be friendlier too.
It's very overcast today so I'm having problems getting decent shots at long range. Here is a bad one of a parent on the nest box with what might be a spider.
He's sooo sooooo sweeeeeet! Great shots Pelle. I can't wait either to see the little offsprings. Whoa!
Good shots pelle, love the one at the new suet feeder.
Everything still the same here, no fledging. Mom and Dad had a bit of an argument on the top of the nest box. She was hissing at him!
Supposed to have rain all day with high winds (ugh) tomorrow so no photos but I'll try to keep an eye on them while I'm here.
Evreyone has bad day now and then. lol
Cute photos!! I'm enjoying this pair as much as you are.
They still haven't fledged as of Wednesday evening but I did watch as one of the parents kept trying to get them to come out by flying up to the hole showing them food and then going onto a nearby branch and calling them.
The other parent didn't seem to want to do this as they kept going inside to feed them.
Here is the parent trying to coax them out.
Oh a funny/sorta scary thing also happened. A Red-bellied Woodpecker flew onto that log suet feeder I have hanging from the porch. The Chickadee got so mad he came over and started attacking the the red-bellied! I couldn't believe it, I had to finally chase the red-bellied away because I was afraid the chickadee would get hurt. These little guys are way too brave!
ha! That reminds me of the tiny Willie Wagtails attacking Margaret's Ospreys
I bet today IS the day!!
I'm standing by with anticipation. Fledge-day?
The tenacity of a protective parent birds is amazing. I've seen Brown Thrasher attacking chipmond. Carolina wren stalking the same size rodent when they're too close for comfort.
Darling shots Pelle...I think they DO own that log!!
Love, love this series Pelle. It's so much joy to share this experience with you. Thank you, once again I can picture you in your 'naturel' shaking your fist at the HOSP. lol
Enjoyed your photos and comments too! That dad photo is excellent, but I loved all of them. Glad they have you to help guard their home.
Such sweet, sweet pair. Ahem, they've got my vote for top models.
ahhhh...this all just goes to fast!
Pelle, that's fantastic! How cute is that!? You must be over the moon
Pell,soo sweet ..
