Can anyone ID this flower?

Robbinsville, NC

Need help IDing this little beauty. The blooms close at dusk and re-open in the morning.

It looks like an Anemone to me which grows from a bulb. Not sure of the variety although it could be "Monarch de Caen" Red. Have them myself and they do close at night and reopen in the morning.

This plant came from seed that was sown last spring. Last year it was taller than it is in this picture. Don't know if it is a perennial or an annual that self seeds easily. There are more blooms than there were last year.

I'm still thinking its an anemone. They can probably grow from self sowed seed also, I would think. The foliage looks like an anemone, especially that small cluster of leaves that's just a few inches below the bloom on the stem. Hopefully someone else will give us their opinion.

It's Adonis annua.

Thank you for your help. I went to the website Wikispecies and typed in Adonis annua. The pictures shown are an exact match for the plants we have.

I'm so glad you posted this! I have this growing from a wild flower mix I planted last year. Some are coming up are larger - like 2nd year plants but I have babies in a flower bed where they weren't even planted. I almost weeded them out today.
