Still keeping you in my thoughts Chris and hope all is well♥
Hanging in there. Part 3
Well, so much for being here for you Chris. It has been non-stop busy again and then I go to bed about 8:00 - 8:30 pm.
We have had the kids a lot lately with DD taking goats to the shows. 4 days and 3 nights. I barely get thru a thread and they're awake. The pancakes are cooking as I type, LOL!
We took the boys to The Swinging Bridge in Columbus Junction, a park to play and Dairy Queen to eat. We've gone bike riding around town, with Grandpa and the oldest riding bikes, and me walking with the younger on his bike. (At least I'm outside AND getting a walk in.) We do chores twice a day at their house, but we go with in the afternooons since we're not ready in the morning. This week we went to the little Country Store in Kalona, but they didn't have many toys to chose from. I was hoping for tractor ascessories. We did find one manure spreader and got it. The oldest chose a donkey on a box. When you push the corners, the head bows or it drops to it's feet. Same toy I had when I was little. He loves it :o) We also hit a park in Riverside, home of the Star Trek Fest. William Shatner played a practical joke on the town, acting like they were making a movie over there and getting the town people involved. I didn't think it was too funny, but they were all gracious about it and allowed the movie of the practical joke to be shown on TV. They also built a Casino outside of town. It's built over ''artificial'' water, since there isn't a river or lake there. That way it qualifies as a riverboat or something? I'm not a casino person and could care less. Today we're going to the Fall festival in Lone Tree, 7 miles from here. There's a parade, ping pong drop and all kinds of contestsfor the kids. We aren't in any, but will watch other kids do tractor pulls.
We've had a nice couple of days and I raked all the yellowed grass that the lawnmower (not me) threw on the sidewalk this spring. The weeds got pulled from the cracks and the worst from the sides. It was still hot in the sun and the flies and mosquitos liked the shade too :o( I deadheaded the phlox and pulled weeds from the two worst beds.
It has rained every week I think. I can't believe we are getting so much. Conesville and Atalissa, both 8 and 15 miles from us, but lower, have flooded ditches and yards. It's terrible! And it just keeps raining.
The only garden I have are eggplant and hot peppers. The cabbage is still holding on, and I'm saving it for kraut, but no green peppers. I think the pollen washed off.
Thanks Sallyg, it was a nice sentiment :o)
Stormy, what a nice picture of the Swallowtail! Now, why can't I think of the name of the flower? I love the thin petals!
Luvs, love the neat contented toad planter, and the sedum is a perfect size!
I have a big, real toad that is under the Hostas by the sidewalk. Everytime I walk down the walk she hops back in the Hostas. It cracks me up everytime and I'll bet she thinks something similar about me, LOL!
It rained yesterday just as we were done with chores at DD's. The lightning was neat and we saw some good ''down to earth'' bolts on the way home. It hadn't rained as much here, but it did rain.
Chris, I sure hope you are ok, working and just catching up on things. I know it's hard to jump back in here when you've been away for so long. I'm still praying for you.
Sunset taken from the jeep as we were going home from chores.
Billy, It's a Ligularia. They have been blooming for several weeks now.
Stormy, it's the color I couldn't place! I love that plant. I have ''The Rocket'' and it bloomed early this spring. I'm going to have to have that one too!
Chris, we took the boys home yesterday morning after having them since Thursday morning.I mowed after dinner. After I was done mowing, DH discovered the grapes were ready to pick. We've been snacking on them, but I didn't realize most of the bunches were now purple. We picked, cleaned them and I have an 18 quart dishpan in the fridge full of grapes waiting for me to run jars thru the dishwasher.
So, I better get up and get going. I haven't had breakfast yet, but I did manage to get dressed :o)
I hope you check in one of these days to tell us all is well.
We all just keep smiling :o)
Prayers & Hugs, Chris....Love ya, Honey!
Hey Chris!!! just checking in
Billy, I believe that Ligularia is Britt Marie Crawford.
Thinking of you tonight Chris... sending you hugs and well wishes too! May God's arms be wrapped tightly around you and holding you close!
Thanks Stormy! I sure like her!
Chris, thinking of you and hoping all is well! Big Hugs!!
Thinking of you everyday Chris. Hoping that you're peaceful and know how much you are cared for by all of us.
It's been busy around here and I hope it's busy there too. It seems like I get half my threads answered and it's time to get a walk in. Then housework, or having the Grandkids, like we are this morning while DD has a dental appt. We'll take them home later today.
Prayers for you Chris!
Big hugs and take care!
Beautiful photo Carolyn! I hope that Chris is enjoying her pond and her regular froggy visitors.
Thanks Mary. I hope Chris is recouperating by her pond.. just the sound of water can be theraputic.
I woke up to bright flashes of lightning, but no thunder. We got a good downpour and I see 1.5'' in the guage this morning. After a summer of too much rain, we actually needed this. I noticed my Astilbes crisping up. I may top them off later today to make sure they are soaked up good.
Chris, I hope the rain is warm and the pond is full right now.
Have a GOOD day!
The cats are out in the yard for the first time since they were 5 weeks old.
aaaaaaaawwwwwwww
Robin, Look at those beautiful green eyes!!
Chris, I'm trying out your soda bread recipe today and hope it turns out as good as when you made it. Have a very nice long weekend.
Jeez Lady, I have not been on DG nearly enough. DH & I went to Erie (NE, PA) for aweekend 7/18-7/20. Not enough time to visit but I could have called you. If we go back, I'll get your telephone number. Prayers from me to you.
Chris, the rain saved the astilbes and the cool weather saved my sanity. I've been out weeding and cutting back the phlox and daylilies. I have to leave most of the seedheads for the birds, but it sure looks better than before. I really don't have a lot of blooms right now :o( I'm still praying for the best for you. Big hugs from me and Zoey. He just plopped down and now I'm typing one fingered.
Catbird, what is poor Benny not supposed to scratch? He's beautiful!!
Benny develops an allergy in the summer, what to I don't know. He chews and licks the inside of his back legs and lower tummy until they break out. Or they itch and he chews/licks until they are red and semi-raw. The vet gives him a steroid shot and that usually helps for a couple months. Only bothers him in summer.
Poor poor Benny. How old is he?
my Dad's dog gets something like that if she lays down on a new rug .. if it has formaldehyde in it... they had to gate off the living room until it wore off
Benny is a bit over 2 years old. My eldest son rescued him and his 3 siblings when they were about 5 weeks old.My son's friend took 2 when they were older and we kept two. When I left my husband and moved out I took Benny and Scrambles with me. They have always been together and love each other.
I felt bad about leaving the 10 year old cat (Swirlygirl) at the house but my younger son wanted to keep her. My husband finally decided she had to go too so she is living with my sister in Richmond now and smacking around their German Shepards. She has no fear.
Catbird... I just love Benny and Scrambles!
catbird---
When my girl's were still kids--we had all kinds of cats--coming and going....
I remmeber that one of them also got that "licking till raw" affliction....
I don't remember exactly--but somehow I think the Vet said it was something to do with
one's nerves....I think the vet gave her a pill to take--or was it a cream to apply????
Hey! it's been about 30 years ago...can't be sure.....
Just for memories---here are my 2 girls with their first 2 kittens. Also brother and sister.
We got them from some kids who had a litter in a cardboard box at out Shopping Center.
The girls named them--Tina and Taffy.
Tina (the whiter one) lived to the ripe old age of 14.
Taffy, we believe, got clipped by a car that damaged the nerve (where it splits) by the tail. rendering him a paraplegic--and also losing control of his urination. Sadly--we had to put him away--
Sorry the picture is so small. This was taken when I still had to re-size every picture s I could save it...
My daughters are now 42 and 45.
benny and Scrambles are very pretty/ handsome. My sister had a tough time with a cat that lost fur, a real sweetheart but pretty funny looking with so much fur missing and plus no tail. I think eventually they thought allergy, changed food or something and it grew back
Gita cute girls a nd kittens.!
Sorry to get back so late. It's just been run run run. Not like us at all!
Catbird, love the picture of Benny and Scrambles. I also love the names you chose for all the cats!
Gitagal, I love the girl's pictures with their cats, which are adorable too :o)
Chris, sorry to be missing so much, but I sure do think about you. We had to run out to DD's Wednesday afternoon so DH could help work on wiring a horse trailor. We didn't get home till 10:30 pm!! For those that know me, I hit the hay pretty early. I was watching the oldest play games on the computer and had to keep opening my eyes. I should have volunteered to get them to bed so I could nap. They did have school the next day and stayed up way too late!
I've been enjoying our warm to cool days and have cut back a lot of plants. I'm working on the Siberian iris now. I forgot how many I had. I also seem to have more Balloon Flowers than ever before. It feeels good to find the dirt underneath and to give the rain a place to soak in. So far, our rain has slowed down, altho we do have a chance this afternoon and evening.
Take care of yourself Chris and don't let the bugs bite! (((BIG HUG)))
Really missing you Chris,
Hi all Ric and I have been traveling and will be headed back out soon. Just stopped by to send Chris some get well wishes.
Chris, Hope you are feeling better....prayers & hugs!
Hey Chris!!! not a newbie just me with a different user name....we were joking about the MA accent on the NE forum so that's how I went from flowerjen to flowAjen
Good morning Chris, hope you are enjoying the cooler weather we are having. It looks like the leaves are starting to change colors. Are they changing in your area yet?
Thinking about you today, Chris.
Chris, I feel bad that I can't get updated everyday. I seem to run out of time for more than my two ususal threads. I hope you are ok. I don't want to fear the worst, but thoughts keep creeping in. (((((BIG BIG HUG ))))) for you, wherever you are. I'm missing you much.
Holly, sounds like a nice time :o)
FlowAjen, I love the name change :o)
