Daily Pics. Vol. 317

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Time for a new thread...here is a link to the previous one http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1094370/ . By now we are all seeing migrants as well as our summer residents so hope to see your visitors here!

I will start this one off with a Harris' Sparrow. He has been with us all winter and I was surprised he hasn't made his trip north. I usually don't get to see him in his breeding plummage. Kind of a handsome fella I think...

Of course we have our share of American Goldfinches and they are gorgeous this time of the year!

Beautiful pics Rose! I love that first shot of the Harris Sparrow, they are handsome! Your Goldfinch, Barn Swallow and Savannah Sparrow are sweet too!
Thank for starting the new Daily Pics thread!

Norman, OK

Enjoyed the Harris' Sparrow. Had a few here awhile back, but they didn't stay. I still have some Lark, Chipping and Savannahs feeding. A pic of one of the Chipping.

I fed Daddy BB some worms yesterday afternoon and watched with my binocs where he landed down on the creek. Went down and braved the greenbriar and poison ivy in my shorts, which was fun. But was able to spot all 6 of the babies. Got a shot of 3 of them. When I first saw them, all 6 were huddled together, but they flew when I approached even though they were quite high in a tree. Good that they have developed survival instincts, but they are still weak flyers.

Thanks for the new thread rose. Love seeing all your sparrows.

Glad you found your BB's safe red!

Mrs. Ed congrats on your warbler on the last thread!!

I hate it when I am driving and see what I know would have been a new bird and don't have the camera or even if you did you can't just stop! I saw something down by the old barn the other day that I did not recognize....but no camera!

Red I know you must be relieved to see all the baby Blues...hope you didn't get into the poison ivy!

Nanny...I still haven't seen a Catbird this year but I think I am hearing them (or maybe feral cats)!! And yes...I have been driving along and it seems I always see something new but no camera!!

The Dickcissels have returned and I think they are nesting in the blackberry bushes. This is the closest shot I could get of the happy couple.

Another male duck messed with one of Donald's women (he has two). I caught this action with a point and shoot. Really not fun to see!

Great news about your Bluebirds red! Love the Chipping Sparrow shot!

Cute peek-a-boo shot nanny!

Rose, The Dickcissels are very pretty!

GG, Good catch of the action but I'm sure it's upsetting to watch.

Mount Pleasant Mills, PA(Zone 5a)

Then, does he look pleased with himself?

I have other pictures of this action posted on Picasa if you care to see them. Donald the Conqueror.

Aww, their very sweet GG!

GG, Donald is banded! Handsome lad! Thanks Rose for the new thread. The Harris Sparrow is handsome yet, he resemblances somewhat what of the HOSP--anyones' take on this? I personally miss all my sparrows for they all have migrated North. The Kickcissels (a tongue twister) are very pleasing to see. Red, I've anticipatory-itch just think of the poison Ivy. Glad you get to see the the BB's fledglings. It's my turn to suffer empty nest syndrom. My Carolina Wrens apparently have fledged. I suspected it took place yesterday when I saw more than 2 gathering immediately below the gourd nest. Then this morning their songs came farther away in the neighbor yard and not under my Rose Arbor (where the nest is). I set out mealworms this morning for several hours now, there is no takers. Sniff sniff.

Norman, OK

Lily, I bet the wren will bring her babies back. I suspect Daddy BB will bring his fledglings to the mealworm feeder when they can fly better. I just had a female Hairy WP bring a fledgling to a suet feeder in the back yard. He got a little confused and landed on one of the brick porch pillars, but finally found the suet. Daddy BB has been picking up crumbs from that feeder this a.m. and taking them down to the creek to his babies. It's a great time of year to be bird watching.

Dell, I saw a Dickcissel sitting on a fence post the other day just singing away. I pulled right up beside in in the car and would have had some great pics-- but had one of those moments where my autofocus just wouldn't focus on the bird. :-(

Red, you're absolutely right. My wrens are back! Woohooo, two of them so it could be the parents bringing foods to their babies. I'm happy. It's sorta-like sending our grand kids to school. lol.

Pelle, I'm glad you've taken the TT pics. for they're much too fast for me too.

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Wonderful photos on the last thread. I just can't keep up with all of you.

Rose, thank you for the new thread. Your sparrows are beautiful. Great shots of the swallow and goldfinch too. Love the colors on the Barn Swallows.

Red, your sparrow is also beautiful. Your baby bbs are just adorable. Watch that poison ivy though-it's not fun as you must know. Great job with the Hairy wps!! They must have been fun to watch.

Nanny, cute one of your Catbird.

Rose, that Dickcissel is a new one to me. Great photo, hope we'll see more.

GG, hope you don't have to witness the spats too often. The ducks sure can get mean. I wonder if that one with the band was rescued at one time.

Pelle, your Titmice are adorable. I guess your birds are the same as mine, grab and fly off!

Lily, glad your wrens are back!

I was finally able to get a decent photo of our Yellow-headed Blackbirds.

Marlton, NJ

Duc, Great action shots of the Eagles!!! The Yellow-headed Blackbird is so handsome!! The Flycatcher is very pretty!

Lily, Mr Lincoln is very handsome, nice shot!!

Marlton, NJ

Hi Lily, The Harris Sparrow has a Black bib, forehead, crown, and nape along with a pink bill.

The House Sparrow has a gray head, white cheeks, black bib and rufous neck along with a black or yellowish bill.

I like the Harris Sparrows looks much better but the House Sparrows reputation (in the US) is so bad it's hard to be generous with compliments for them.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Yes Pelle, they looks somewhat similiar, shared a common black bib. :-)

Cramlington, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

Duc those eagle shots are stunning!

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

That last shot of the ducks is really sweet GG! Wish we could get some ducks on our pond but nada so far.
Red...that is a darling little Woodpecker baby.
Pelle..nice shots of the faster than light TT!
Glad your Wrens have returned Lily...your Mr. Lincoln is very handsome.
Duc...awesome shots, I especially like the Eagle action shots. That flycatcher is awfully cute too!

Here is one of the baby Blues working up his courage to get some worms. So far I have only seen 3 of them together in the worm dish.

Wonderful shots Rose! Nice tight detailed close up of the Downy and the baby Blue is adorable!

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Rose, your baby bb is just adorable and that Downy is so clear. Beautiful!

I was hoping to get some afternoon shots of birds and the nesting Chickadees but we're having wind gusts up to 55 mph so the birds are really being challenged today.
