Viburnums (or other shrubs) as small tree forms?

Mesquite, TX

Is the Korean spice viburnum something that could be trained as a small tree-form specimen? I'd like to find the variety "Diana." I'm looking for something about 4-6 feet tall but not compact all the way to the ground. It would be surrounded by other perinneals next to the pool. The site gets morning to mid-morning sun (until around 11am) then has a break until around 3pm and then moderate sun until 5 pm. I don't want something so tall that it would eventually shade the pool, but would love something with fragrant blooms. I think the snow ball variety might get too large for the space I have to work with. Any other plant suggestions are welcome!

Thanks,
Sherry

You can often find Gardenias like 'August Beauty' in tree-form. It would be low-ish, fragrant, and evergreen. Monrovia Nursery grows them as a patiotree so the work would already be done for you. You can search for a vendor here: http://www.monrovia.com/find-a-garden-center/

I love the Koreanspice viburnum because it's fragrant. It typically doesn't grow that high-- 5 to 6 feet, but not quickly so you should be fine.
