Plumeria...Please help

Farmington, MI

I purchased this grafted plumeria last season. It leafed out beautifully. No flowers but I expected that. I live in Mi and have had it outdoors for over 1 month because of the warm weather. I did bring it indoors when it get cool. I have been feeding it every 2 weeks and still no leafing. Do I need to give it more time? It looks healthy as you can see by the pic. Thanx for any feedback

I'd give it some time--as long as the stems feel firm rather than mushy it's likely still fine and should leaf out eventually. Do be careful with the watering though--plumies don't need a ton of water to begin with and since it doesn't have any leaves it's not going to go through water as fast as it would normally. You might also consider bringing it in at night if your nighttime temps are much below 45-50--I don't know for sure, but since it is a tropical plant it might grow leaves quicker if it's kept warmer overall.

I know about the limited watering when it is a new cutting. This was a grafted rooted cutting when I got this last year so I assumed to water it when dry. Is this wrong?

No, watering when it's dry is fine (but make sure you're checking for dry by sticking your finger down a few inches in the container to see if it still feels wet or not--the surface of the soil will look dry long before it's dry a couple inches down). Many people tend to water things on a certain frequency (daily, weekly, etc) so my comment was meant to point out that a plumeria without leaves is not going to go through water as fast as a plumeria with leaves, so if you were one of those people who waters on a certain frequency, you might have to adjust and water less frequently now. But if you're watering based on waiting until it's dried out enough in between then you're fine.

i have raised about thirty or more plumerua from cuttings. i now have about 7 or 8 6ft or taller trees. they do take a while to leaf out and i have gotten a flower before i got leaves. i put mine in the hot sun all day and keep them on the dry side. once they start showing leaves they will grow pretty rapid. do not ever let them get frost on them or you will lose them for sure. very easy plants to take care of and lots of enjoyment. the white ones seem to bloom longer and more than the other colors. i have a red, white, white & yellow and yellow. everytime one of mine has a broken piece (wind blown over) i root it and give it to a friend. got so many now i can not keep any more and hate to see them go to waste. buy you one of these water meters they have a lowes or home depot and it will help tell how dry or wet they are. the meter is only about $5 or $7.
i live in north carolina. good luck.
