tree planted 3ft from house

Brooklyn Park, MN(Zone 4a)

new red bud tree planted a little over 3 ft from the house, whats the worest that could happen.why you dont plant tree's next to house's?

Plants, shrubs and trees(depending on size, bigger they are the farther away they should be planted) should be planted at least 4 feet from the house.
Termites and ants are a problem, also mold on the house, roots can create problems for foundation and pipe, falling leaves and seed pods etc can clog gutters. Need I go on???

I would disagree somewhat with the 4 ft rule--you really need to look at how wide the tree/shrub will be when it's full grown and make sure you plant it far enough away that it's not going to be growing into the house when it's full size. 4 ft would be way too close for many types of trees. Then you also need to look at how the roots behave--the roots can often spread beyond the canopy of the tree, so if you're planting something that has roots that like to get into foundations then you need to have it even farther away. I don't think redbuds have particularly aggressive roots, but if Plant Files is correct they can get 12-20 ft wide. Since half of that width will be between the trunk of the tree and the house, I'd make sure it's 6 ft away at an absolute minimum, and 10 ft would be better.

That's why I said this....

no i didnt plant the tree by the house it's away from the house in the back yard.the problem i have is i only have17ft to work with, between my yard and the neighboors house/garage.my house from over heats from the afternoon/evening sun.whatever i plant has to be close to the house because i need to fit a vehicle through this space and i dont think my neighbors would like tree branches in there yard.i planted a grey twigged dogwood and a honeysuckle bush there they get pretty tall 10ft.i would like something else because my big dinning room window has a nice view of my neighboors house, what do you recomend?

lol ecrane, I skim a lot too.

How about an upright conifer? There are a selection of more upright shrubs or trees that will fit in narrow spaces
Here's some from Forest Farm for your zone
