I woke up this morning and went to the yard to check on my babies. A couple of the pots looked like a very very teeny tiny dog tried diggin them up! (well i know it's not any of our dogs ^_^ but that's what first came to mind- a 2-inch dog;) In one of the pots was an astilbe juuuust starting to poke it's lil furry head out before it got "bit off"... I'm pi$$ed to say the least! what would do such horrible and mean things?!? :( I'm thinkin birds, but i like birds tho! if it's birds, what shudda do? are they lookin for worms in my pots?!? maybe i shud put a little sign that reads "no worms in this here pot".
lilylivered pot-digger..!
Could be squirrels if there was digging involved. I don't have too much trouble with them at my current house, but at my old house they were always digging in my containers (sometimes they damaged plants in the process--sometimes I didn't know they'd done anything until baby walnut trees kept coming up in the pots!). I ended up covering the tops of them with bird netting and that kept them out. Or if it was just plants nibbled off then bunnies would be another suspect.
That's a negatory on the squirrels and bunnies ^_^. I just caught one of those red chested little birdies "red-handed"! I've now moved the pots to a somewhat secure location (dear hubby built a birdhouse right on a tree where I kept the pots under, there're babies in it already!). Oh and the bird poo on the rim of one of the pots kinda sealed the deal ;)...
