I just planted some clumps of scotch moss (4" pots) about a week ago, and two of them are dying/urning brown from the center out. They were root-bound and maybe over-watered at the big box store where I got them, but they sat in the pots for a while before I got to planting them and seemed fine, and now that I've planted them are not doing well. They are in a mostly sunny spot in well amended clay-ish soil, and it is loamy and moist but not soggy... so I can't tell if the trouble is over water, or under, or some other sickness. I'd love any advice. Thanks.
scotch moss ailing
I planted some last year & had the same thing happen only I planted mine in part shade. Sure would have looked pretty if it would have grown. Maybe it doesn't like our zone?

I actually tried one little one last year, but it was before I lightened up the clay very well- so I wasn't surprised when that one didn't make it. But this year, I made a big project out of turning one side of the house into a nice bed, and everything else I've planted in there is doing very nicely so far. I do wish I knew if the trouble was something correctable or not. I made a real moss path in the shadier part of the bed right by the house, and wanted the scotch moss so I could pick that look up again in the areas that got more sun.
Well, I hope someone can help you with this. It would look pretty :)
