This weed is overtaking my garden - Help!

Douglasville, GA

I'm not sure if you can see the image well enough to identify this weed. There are a few large ones like this, but there are thousands of "tiny" ones with two leaves that are coming up all over my perennial garden. The larger ones are hard to dig up. They seem to have very invasive roots. I have dug out all the larger ones to the best of my ability, but the tiny ones seem to come back in just a few days. They are driving me crazy, but I'm determined that they are not going to get the best of me.

Does anyone know what these are, and is there a way to get rid of them, short of spending an hour a day plucking all those tiny leaves out of my garden.

As you can probably tell, I am fairly new at this. I have recently retired, and have fallen in love with gardening. I never had much time when I worked, but I am now trying to make up for lost time.

born2roam, you may get a quicker positive ID if you post your request and picture in the Plant and tree ID forum. It looks kinda like Commelina, but I am not sure. Here is the link to the ID Forum.

Your plant almost looks like Goosenect Loostrife - I have a patch of them and the are VERY invasive. If contained they make a nice "hedge" type of scenery around my patio. I just mow/pull out the ones where I don't want them, but as you say, they come back with a vengence. Roundup may be your only solution if you don't want them.
