The woodland phlox in the garden center is tagged for sun or part shade, but everywhere online I read that it is a shade loving plant. Will it grow on the west side in front of a brick wall? It would get some shade in the late afternoon. My area is in Chicago. Will it self sow or does it spread from the roots? What about mildew? And do the rabbits like it? I am so tired of planting things that are chewed to the ground in the morning! I am growing a my brunnera in a wire cage with a wire cover across the top. Otherwise it will disappear in no time.

woodland phlox
Here is a list of perennials that are either resistant to rabbits or not appealing to them. The phlox listed in the second link is all for full sun and is drought and rabbit resistant.
