fruit tree

Orlando, FL

I moved into a home that has fruit trees in backyard . One of the orange trees has grown in the wrong direction, the branches have grown in the direction of my neighbors yard , all most all the fruit hangs in his yard , can it be corrected? I am not sure how old the tree is. I also am concerned about the fence , it is pushing into it.

Is the tree leaning, or does it just have more/bigger branches on the neighbor's side? If it's leaning, then it's probably best to consult an arborist to see if there's anything that can be done for it.

If it's not leaning but is growing better on the neighbor's side, then you need to look at what's on his side of the fence that's making the tree happier--more sun? better soil? If it grew that way because his side of the fence is sunnier for example then there's not a lot you can do unless you want to remove whatever it is that's shading it on your side. The other possibility is that the previous owners pruned branches on your side of the fence but ignored what was on the neighbor's side since it was harder for them to reach (or maybe the neighbor likes oranges and asked them to leave those branches alone)

As far as the fence--if it was planted too close to the fence and is growing into it now there's not much you can do about that besides move the tree or move the fence. If the tree is large and has been there for a while it will be hard to move, but in that case it may also be just about at its mature size and may not do too much more damage. Or as I mentioned above if it's leaning, call the arborist.

yes, the tree is leaning , its as if the whole tree has grown in the direction of the neighbors yard, it is possible that the branches have not been pruned much on his side also. thank you I guess I will have to consult an arborist .
