I want to save 2 very large old climbing roses that were here when I bought this house 13 years ago. They are growing in brushy overgrowth along property line. They look like a waterfall of white roses when they bloom cascading down the trees & brush. The problem is, I need to clear out the brushy overgrowth, but don't want to kill the roses. I cleared out a lot of the overgrowth and found exactly where they are growing from and am attaching photos under seperate comments. How safe is it to cut these & how much?

thanks moonhowl, good guide for rooting roses. I think my biggest concern is that it is so shady in this area, if I cut them way back in the process of clearing out brush that they will die. There was a big pink climber here on the other side of the yard and when I cleared out and put a section of split rail fence in for it to climb on, the rose disappeared and never came back. I don't want that to happen to these.
Trish, I would make a few cuttings before I did too much more clearing. That way if anything should happen you will have replacements. Best of luck to ya. Moon
