Hi, I am new. Trying the square foot gardening and it reads that when planting cucumbers, a vine or indeterminate plant is best to use. I keep finding bush plants and seeds. Today I bought National Pickling seeds cucumber from American Seed. The packet does not state if the plants are vines or bushes. Does anyone know a seed company and the name of the seeds I should buy? I live in IL. Thank you
indeterminate cucumber pickling seeds
The majority of cucumbers are vining types . Bush types are available and will typically have the word "Bush" either in the name or description. They are not actually bush, just short truncated vines. National Pickling is an old timer (1924), open pollinated, and very much a vine. Very suitable for trellising. It is a black spine pickling type, excellent for pickles, max size about 5 x 1.5 inches but usually used at a much smaller size for whole pickles.
