Beginner: Rose and Orange tree questions

Santa Clarita, CA

I jumped right into growing roses and ordered 32 plants, so I have a lot invested, I also bought 16 trellises for my climbers, so I'm deep. So the roses did great at first but now I'm having a problem. The ends/tops of the canes (the original canes that they came with) have started to turn black and die off. Some of the canes have had long black areas move down the canes, then the canes would turn yellow, then I'd cut them down to below the black areas (cleaning shears between). Now, before you totally go the mold route I want you to know that the leaves have been fine until the area creeping down the canes has encompassed the stem feeding the leaves. So no sign of mold on the leaves until the cane dies off. I'm in Santa Clarita, CA, zone 9. We have a pretty reputable roses society, and I asked them for guidance, but they haven't gotten back to me yet. We have had lots of rain this month, but I have already slowed down my own irrigation, and decided to go from 3 evenly spaced days to 2 longer evenly spaced days, from Sun/Tues/Thurs to Sun/Thurs. I can't really control the mist from the lawn getting on them and I have 180 degree sprinklers spraying away from them. This might be too much detail, but the more info the better.

Orange trees: nearly killed them last year (too much water), so moved them to large pots on the patio (where I could totally control the water, except for rain). I knew they were in trouble b/c the leaves curved in and fell off, lost most of them. Lost one, kept two alive with TLC. Now the two survivors had few leaves left and gained none since, but I was happy they stayed alive through the winter. Now they are flowering on one plant and starting the process on the other. On the plant that is further along the tips of the twigs are dying off and a couple leaves have fallen off. The other plant is just fine. They are both receiving the same light, same water (check the soil with moisture/ph meter now), everything is the same but flowering stage. So is the flowering causing the energy of the plant to redirect to the flowers and neglect other parts? Is this normal, more or less, or is something else going on? Should I knock off the flower buds? Some are already dropping on their own. Thank you.

You are watering the roses too much... are they planted close together? They need at least 2-3 ft in between to get air circulation.
Your problem is from the inside of the rose, not exterior... if you don't get 6 hrs of sunlight ( at least) & with watering as often as you are..then you may have already killed them.
Hold back on watering for at least a week to see what happens.
