I would like to start a honeysuckle vine in my yard i have bought one from the nursery but it had no smell. I would like to start one from a wild honeysuckle any suggestions on where to get a start and how to plant it? thanks
wild honeysuckle
Be careful with those--they may smell pretty but they're very aggressive so in a year or two you'll be back here asking us how to get rid of them!
I have 2 acres, one of which is FULL of wild honeysuckle (Lonicera japonica). I would not wish this terribly invasive weed on my worst enemy! Please reconsider planting this. I'm sure someone here knows of a non-invasive that still has a scent.
ants
I was not aware of it spreading so fast. i dont have any around were i live but I dont want to plant something that will be come a problem later.
I've been fighting it for 9 years. It strangles trees to death & covers everything in its path. It grows extremely fast. Any little bit you leave on the ground with grow into new ones. It is just terrible that something that looks & smells so good can be so devastating.

I do love the way it smells but maybe there is something not as pesky i can plant that has a nice smell to it. i would like something that climbs . but i dont know much about flowers.
How about Sweet Autumn clematis?? will grow in sun- mostly shady and sweet smelling(hence the name☺)

Flowerjen what a pretty plant and my friend down the road has a huge one growing around her arch in her yard. She said she would love to give me a start thanks so much for the info.
Crafti Trish , YIKES wow that is scary , I think I will look for something else to plant .
OMG, don't even think about planting the wild honeysuckle found in the woods. It has been trying to take over the world for a long time. I live in the suburbs, not even near the woods, and in the last few years it has been a constant struggle to keep it out of my flowerbeds. It sneaks up on me if I don't monitor constantly. Once the stem turns woody you can't just pull it out. It's horribly insidious and is on the USDA's top 10 list of noxious weeds. My son is a ranger with the Army Corps of Engineers at a local lake with miles trails in the woods. He and the rest of the staff spend hours and hours every year trying to eradicate the stuff. The only way to get rid of it after it takes hold is a powerful herbicide.
I have seen fragrant native honeysuckle over the years, usually public gardens. Do some more research, but DON'T get the stuff out of the woods.
