I have put some not fully roted leaf mould round 2 of my plants. a buddlea & Sambucus nigra ' Black Beauty'. is this safe they where taken as cutting last year and this is there first year in the garden.
Leaf mulching
I always mulch plants with my fall leaves as I collect them--if you do that then it can help if you shred the leaves first since that'll help them break down faster and also help keep them from forming an almost waterproof sheet of leaves across the top of the soil. But if the leaves are partly broken down already you shouldn't have that problem.
what about tiny leaves like Live Oak.. do they also need to be shredded? I have lots of them all over my yard here in FL. Ive used them to mulch the herb garden, but was also thinking about using them in my other beds as well.
Tiny leaves should be fine. I have trees with larger leaves, and if I don't shred them up then they form a nice almost waterproof sheet across the top of the garden so I need to shred them for best results.
