pill bugs eating strawberries!!! :(

Hollywood, FL

Pill Bugs/Roly Poly's are everywhere in our garden. And they are burrowing into our strawberries (burrowed into our beets last year). What can be done?

Try 7 Dust.

Is it safe around vegetables?

Yes, just be sure to wash all veggies.

Hasn't Sevin been implicated in some of the problems with honey bees? I believe I read an article put out by our extention office, in the paper, suggesting not using Sevin for this reason. I wonder if there is some other way to work with these bugs. My strawberries have also been under attack. I was thinking of trying to mulch thickly with wet newspaper between the plants. I would think the pill bugs would prefer to be under the newspapers as they like dark and cool, while the strawberries could be ripening on top. Anyone ever try that?

I like that idea about the newspaper...maybe I'll try that.

While reading another question posted by Kristen24 about grub worms, Ret_Sgt_Yates posted a mixture to spray that seems to be Bee friendly. It was a homemade mixture he called: BUG B GONE FROM YOUR GARDEN SPRAY THE NATURAL WAY. You might try that.
