Impatiens not blooming yet

Chicago, IL

I live in Chicago, where winters are brutal and long. Last year I planted Hostas and Red Impatiens. When the fall came, I covered all of them wood chips to help them survive the winter. A few weeks ago, I removed the wood chips and the Hostas are beginning to come back and are quickly growing.
However, there is no sign from the red Impatiens that they will be regrowing.
Is it too early for them?
When do they normally bloom?
How long should I wait for them to return before I replant something else there?

Thank you

Impatiens are definitely annuals in your zone--no way would they survive your winter (even if it had been a normal winter). Maybe you'll be lucky and a few babies will come up from seed but your best bet will be to go buy yourself some new ones.

Def an annual there. At the end of season remember to take some cuttings to overwinter inside.
