heirloom and heirloom-based hybrid tomatoes

Hi, i write about gardening for a major newspaper and am working on a story about heirloom-based tomato hybrid crosses, bred for more disease resistance.
--have any of you tried heirloom tomatoes, and what has your luck been with them, compared with hybrids?
--any of you tried any of these heirloom-based hybrids, a la burpee's brandy boy (based on the brandywine)?
