Hi. I have a syngonium that I've had for many years. It has been less vigorous for a while now, with even the newer leaves turning yellow and shriveling. I thought it might need re-potting, but it wasn't root bound at all, so I just cleaned it up and put it back with fresh potting soil. That was a few days ago, and it has wilted terribly. I'm doubting that the leaves that are on there now will recover. Should I prune it back hard and let it try to 'start fresh' from the crown? Does it need some leaves left for photosynthesis to recover? I gave it a little root stimulator after repotting.
help for sad syngonium
Off the top of my head I can not think of any alarm button that would cause your Syngonium to go down hill so much. Perhap's it just needed some fresh soil for nutrients but I would check to make sure that a houseplant "pest bug" has not invaded it. I would cut all the dead or near death leaves off and leave any that look healthy and go from there.
Post a picture for further evaluation if you would like.
