For the last two years, my lilac shrub would begin to bloom, but then the leave would turn dark and wither. I was told to spray it with something this year BEFORE it showed any leaves (while dormant)- but Spring came too early and I missed the chance. What can I do now?
something destroys my lilac shrub/tree as it begins to bloom
With many fungal diseases you can't really do much once the symptoms show up, that's why you're supposed to treat them preventatively before the leaves come out. If you can post some pictures maybe someone will know exactly what disease it is and whether there's anything you can do now, but most likely you need to do a good job cleaning up any diseased leaves as they fall off, and then try again next year on getting the preventative application done in time.
