Frost date and planting veggies?

rio rancho, NM(Zone 7a)

The average frost date for my area is in about a week, but the forecast looks like there won't be a freeze. It will be in the mid 40's at night for the next 10 days (according to the weather channel) and I'm assuming it will keep getting warmer as the month goes on. Can I go ahead and plant my tomatoes and basil? or is it still risky? Thanks!

If there is no danger of freeze you could plant them, but keep in mind that tomatoes and peppers and Basil prefer nighttime temps in the 50s and above. While planting now will not damage them, they probably won't do too much either. They will really not take off and grow well until the temps are to their liking. What are your daytime temps like? These plants all like it on the warm side...

Thanks for your response :) Daytime temps are mostly in the 70's but there may be some high 60's in the next week--nighttime temps are still forecasted to be in the 40s. I guess I'm anxious to get them in the ground because some of the leaves are turning a little yellow and thought they might be happier in some new soil. this is just a hunch.... it's my first time planting veggies so I'm not really sure.

I would say them maybe plant some of them out, especially the ones that look like they might be happier in the ground. Then plant the rest when the nighttime temps hit the 50s. Then you would be able to compare the ones planted early and the ones planted later and see if there is any difference in growth or plant vigor! Good luck. I hope they do well for you!
