Has anyone grown Patio Blueberries in a container?

Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

I would love to grow Blueberries but do not have the space for a bush in the landscape. Has anyone grown a plant in a planter? If so, was it successful and can you recommend a variety?

Lakewood, CA(Zone 10b)

I grow three varieties of Southern Highbush, all in 20” planters, here in Southern California -- Oneal, Southmoon, and Sunshine Blue. You might not be able to grow Southern Highbush in Nebraska, Northern Highbush might be more applicable in your case, you’ll have to do a bit of research on that. I used the information provided by Dave Wilson nursery on how to get the right planting mix and how to plant the blueberries as well. Here are some links that details how to accomplish this task.

Btw, almost forgot to mention my blueberries taste absolutely wonderful! I’m not a writer, and therefore can not convey how truly beautiful my blueberries taste.

I grow dwarf blueberries in pots, first year I removed the blooms as directed, this year they are loaded. I'm sorry, I don't know the variety any more, the tags wandered off.

I am also growing blueberries in containers, for the first time.. I am told that pretty much any type can be, however.. you have to have a cross pollinator as well.. of a different species each other. I also have read that it takes 2-3 years for a bush to mature before it has fruit..yes, taking off blooms as they appear. ALSO.. the bush MUST be planted in peat moss in order to get fruit. The best I've been told is Canadian Peat Moss.

Good luck

I was surfing the web looking for information on how to prepare the soil for the container and I came across the following. They say to mix the following:

1/3 acid based potting soil
1/3 peat moss
1/3 medium bark
then you add the following fertilizers: 4 tablespoons of cotton seed meal, 1/2 tablespoon feather meal, 2 tablespoons fish meal and an handful of soil sulfer.

Any comment on whether or not this is a good thing?

I think all of that is already mixed into the bag of Canadian Peat Moss that I saw at Lowe's.. I was told from someone on another thread that Canadian Peat Moss was what I was to put my bushes into.

I know that potting soil can also contain some of those materials you mentioned but
I wouldn't buy each of those materials separately as that would be too expensive... definitely the peat moss with potting soil mix..but be careful to the potting soil, as it could be cheap.

Read the label to be sure.
