Carrot question from the south

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

Hi , we picked a lot of carrots today and they were a hoot.(they weren't watered regularly so they all looked odd). The kids love them, however, I only have about 2 dozen left now. The problem is that I don't know when I planted them so I don't know when I can grow some more. I'm South Texas so we are starting the hot season, do I have to wait till fall to plant more? Are there hot-weather ones that I can plant now?

Thanks!

Hi RATFOOD... My carrots planted in February I will probably have to pull real soon. They are on the small side but very good. We're hovering around 90° and won't see cooler temps for months;o( Not sure if there are hot weather carrots. I will just wait until fall to plant more (late August/early September).

The ones in my loose soil raised beds grow straight as an arrow, but ones I've done in heavier soil were all tangled and twisted... still taste good though.

Probably need to wait til fall. Carrots are cooler weather veggies.

I think I'll succession-sow seeds from Aug-Oct, maybe ever 3 weeks.

Linda, you can probably sow mid-August (if it's not blazing hot) through mid-February like me, no problemo!

I think that's what I'm going to do in the fall. If we have another winter like we had this year, though, they'll freeze. LOL
