hey everyone! i am new to dave's garden and we are moving into our new home on april the 13th! we have a laundry room that has windows all around and shelves. its huge! i am excited about getting some houseplants for our new home. right now i have 2 plants .. a green potho and i think some kind of dumb cane. my question is where is the best place to look. i love vining houseplants. should i look at wal mart, lowes , home depot or ebay? where have you guys had the best luck?
new house..need help
For me I have had the best selection at Lowes.I have had very good luck buying plants on the clearance shelf. Most of the plants are rootbound. They do not fertilize anything.I repot with new potting mix.Trim them up,give them a shot of slow release fertilizer. They generally make a quick recovery. They still guaranteed them for a year.At 50% off its a great way to expand your collection and try new plants.Edge
I buy from my local nursery, they seem to have a wide variety of plants and are always healthy and bug free. Good Luck in your new home :>)

Congratulations! I could go crazy in your laundry room! I shop at Lowe's, Home Depot, especially for succulents, Fred Meyer, Wal-Mart. It really doesn't matter as long as it is not too expensive and bug/disease free. I also have been fortunate enough to find a wonderful private greenhouse with a wide and beautiful selection, and the woman that owns it is super nice and knowledgable. I found her on Craigs List. Just check around and do a little reading. Good luck!
thanks everyone!!!! we just got a lowe's here a few months ago. i will go and check out their selection. i got a few cuttings of some vining houseplant of a friends. i will try and get a picture soon. i am not sure what it is. i also got some english ivy cuttings. i am so excited to get my collection going!
Congrats on the new home! Also check your local non big box garden centers/shops. I prefer those to Lowes/Home Depot.
Another tip I have found useful--where ever you decide to shop for plants on a regular basis, find out on which day their plant shipments usually arrive, and shop there on that day or the following day. If you go on the day of shipments, you might also find some good markdowns of plants left over from last week's shipment, provided you are experienced enough to determine plant health.
This has worked well for me.
This was a HD markdown, and is re-blooming. It is a mini-Phal Orchid
thanks i will keep that in mind! what a beautiful plant!!!! great picture!!!
