Flying in with some fluff.
My Little Chickadee's
She's cute. They will be fun to watch. Hope all goes well.
Looks like she has been rearranging the furniture!!
Here's wishing them great success. They are so sweet, Pelle.
LOL Rose.
Thanks guys! I was wondering if she was turning eggs too. :-)
Eggs? Do you have Eggs? Still none here.
Those pics are sweet pelle!
Hi Mrs Ed, I wanted to go check yesterday but she spent almost the whole day in the box. Now it's raining and will be into Tuesday. Is your female spending up to and hour or more at a time in the nest box? Mine only leaves to grab a quick bite to eat at the feeder or in a close tree from the male (I'm assuming insects). If she does have eggs and yours don't would it maybe be because of our zone differences?
Hi Pelle,
Well I'm unsure about the amount of time she spends in the box, as I can't constantly monitor. When I look, they are in and out it seems. But last night I went to check the box and sure enough, she was in it. I told myself I wasn't going to check for a few more days, but I couldn't resist. I'm so worried that the house wrens will show up any day and I want to get a wren guard up after first egg is laid.
I'm so glad you have these adorable birds to keep you company. Looks like they're quite happy with the home.
I thought I heard House Wrens just now while I was outside underneath the eve of the house. I hope I'm wrong.
From my state listserv, I read that the house wrens are already in the middle part of the state, so it won't be long! Love their chattiness, but am very concerned about the dees.
Oh man, love that box. much easier to observe than mine.
Such cuties.
What about the possibility of a box made with permanent sides, one made out of one-way glass?
I think that might make the birds inside too freaky seeing might be flying right past the box at times like hawks or larger birds. It would be more convenient though. :-)
what would be convenient is to have a camera inside like Dave has. but then I'd have to run wires and that would be a pain.
Dave said he can't get photos of the nest with his regular camera now because the pitch of the roof has changed due to the nest cam. It seems like we all have some problems one way or another with this situation. I guess it's not supposed to be easy. ;-)
ha. no. He can't get pictures of the inside because of the pitch?
Maybe the little darlings could just come to the window and tell us when the first egg is laid. that would solve a problem or two.
Speaking of House Wrens...I saw the one that nest in Pats street light fixture down the road today!
My sister has one of those and Carolina wrens nest in it every year. Very nice Lily!
Just as my chickadees, it's hard to capture their pics. but they're a joy to watch. Thanks Pelle, it's an over cast day. I'll return in the evening for more pic.
I was just on the porch watching the birds. The Mommy Chickadee came out of the nest box to eat along with her mate. I notice how very leery they are of the Grackles and I'm glad to see that since it seems I have up to 6 here at a time. :-( They seem to be very street wise (?) little birds. I'll check the nest box later this week.
I hope they're safe, Pelle.
Big News!
Remember this photo I uploaded before? See the feather at the top right and another that is crossing it to the left? I though these were feathers placed on top of the nest. They are NOT!
It's a live bird tucked down in the nest. I opened the box today and these same feathers suddenly stared moving and making some really nasty noises in protest of my being there. She is tucked down so deep I can't see the head but it's either the mother incubating or a chick. Yippee!!
Wooohooo! That's big news! I'm excited would like to 'hear' more. Happy for you Pelle.
Thanks so much Lily. When I first opened the box I though"Oh nothing has changed", then those feathers came to life, I was so shocked. I quickly felt very bad after hearing the awful noises and seeing the body heaving in protest. I don't know if I'll be opening that box again. I really don't want to upset them that much so I'll try and monitor from a distance.
I can totally relate... My curriosity is getting into me. But, thus far I've refrained myself from disturbing my Carolina's Wrens' gourd nest. On the other hand, with the Brown Thrasher's nest is another matter. I'd love to see the young chicks in the nest. But I've that respect for the parents B.T. guarding its safe heaven. So I kept a good distance when I can. lol.
That is wonderful news Pelle...many congratulations!! Can't wait to see pics of a baby Dee...I don't think I've ever seen one!! How exciting!
Ohhhh that's such wonderful news, Soon Mama and Papa, will start some feeding duties. Hope to see some babies.
Oh..... now to wait and see!!
Nice shot at the Dee papa, Pelle. :-)
You know, I thought that looked like a bird in the nest. Hope she's laying/sitting.
I've been to chicken to look in on mine lately. I'll try tomorrow when I can find them both out of the nest.
A few more pics from today. One of the adults brought to the nest what looked like maybe an insect. Next thing they are carrying the same thing out. But every time he would come to the hole he would see me with my camera aimed at him and pull back inside. I'm sitting about 50 feet away on the porch. Here is a collage of him/her.
Wow! Awesome progresses! Great pics. Pelle.
