Wow, what joy it's to witness such beautiful event. Heheee, Pelle I can "tolerate' another dozen pictures or so of the little darling's pics. lol. Thank you for sharing.
My Little Chickadee's
Pelle those pics are wonderful!! I think you did a great job of showing us what mom is doing to build her nest.:-)
Yay Glad they chose the right box. It fascinating, how they can carry so much, in their small bill. They are indeed laborious workers.
That window will be a nice picture opportunity. Hope to see more happening.
Good news, Pelle. Was the male Chickadee helping out, or is all the females responsibility?
I thought I read that both the male and female build the nest together. Hard to tell since they both look alike.
I'm SO glad they didn't choose the slot box. Congrats.
There was only 1 bird bringing materials in, the other one came in once to check things out and got an earful from the other. :-)
From Sialis: Nest construction: May occur immediately or a few days after excavation is complete. The nest is mostly constructed by the female, although the male may bring in some nest material.
LOL, Maybe it was the males contributions she was carrying out. :-)

How funny is that! lol
Thanks guys! ^_^
Congratulations Pelle...and what an adorable bird and the pics are just great! I am very much looking forward to seeing more of this couple!!
Ha! That would be just like Margaret's Osprey.
OH yes, here's what I read from Cornell, the BOTH excavate the cavity, but the female builds.
Both male and female chickadees excavate a cavity in a site usually selected by the female. Once the nest chamber is hollowed out (it averages 21 cm deep) the female builds the cup-shaped nest hidden within, using moss and other coarse material for the foundation and lining it with softer material such as rabbit fur.
She's a high-maintenance lady! Enjoy fur and downy. ^_^
How typical, get together, get a house and she ends up doing most of the work and the child care!!
Ohoh, I'll probably be in trouble for saying that!!!
LOL, Margaret, isn't it fun these birds give us all kind of inspiration? lol.
Oh yes they do..LOL! I saw a Chickadee in a tree close to a nesting box in my yard today and I was hoping....but alas he flew away.:-(
YAY!!!!! What fun for you over the next few weeks!
I'll check on mine later today and let you know if I see anymore happening.
Well nothing much has changed. I went out earlier this morning to see one of the Chickadee's sitting on top of the box for a long time. It was very chilly out at 45 degree's. I wanted to get out to the nest box to open the side door to see what was happening. It would take some assistance since I'm using a walker. My DH is worried about disturbing them too much or if there are chicks, frightening them into fledging early so he doesn't want to do that. Darn, I really wanted to see what was going on. Oh well. :-)
Well, I'll say it for Mrs Ed: Pelle, you need a webcam.
Yes, that would be better. :-)
LOL. nice, thanks Margaret.
I checked today and still no eggs, but that is one really well-made nest!
Update: It looks like something may have happened to one of the Chickadee's. One was coming around calling and calling but the other one did not answer. I did finally go out to the box and check it,there was a beautiful nest (no eggs). The single Chickadee keeps coming into the yard for food, water etc. Hope he finds another mate soon.
Sorry Pelletory, I also hope he finds a new mate soon.
Nature could be so harsh out there sometimes! Poor little chikadee.
I'm sorry to hear you've lost one of your birds Pelle. Hopefully another mate will soon come along. I'm with your DH, I don't want to check what's in my houses either. My DH cleans them out at the end of the season and doesn't tell me what, if anything, he's found in there that didn't survive.
Oh darn.....If it finds another mate will it still use that house or will they pick another spot?
I really have no idea (shrug), guess it might depend on the female. :-)
Awww. I'm sorry to hear that, Pelle. :(
Yesterday there was some activity at the nest. Two Chickadee's went in the nest box at separate times. One came out carrying a small amount of what looked like evergreen pieces.
I don't know if this means anything but I'll keep watching. :-)
I'm watching too with anticipation. Best wishes.
Good news today. A female is spending long periods of time in the nest box!!
That's really great news;~)
Oh that sounds like good news!
yes it does! I suppose it could be a new female doing her own excavation!
how many pair do you usually have? I have only ever seen one pair at a time here.
Great news, I'll be keeping an eye on what happening at your nest box.
Thanks guys. Mrs Ed I can have up to 4 pair here. Now that it's nesting season I'm only seeing maybe 2 pair.
2 pair is better than nothing-congratulations!
That is great news Pelle...I hope all goes well with them. Best of luck!!
Too cute and it was worth the wait!! (I vote you get a BirdCam)!!
