Help With Veggies

Waxhaw, NC

I am new @ this gardening stuff. I started my cucumbers, tomatos etc indoors and over the weekend moved them out to the deck. I am ready to plant them but I noticed white areas on the leaves of my cucumbers. They were doing so well indoors. Can anybody help? I am working to not let them dry out but not sure if there is some sort of bacteria. I have 6 pete pots and it seems to be affecting all or them, some more than others. HELP!!!

Could they have been sun-burned?

Often if you begin plants indoors, you need to take them outside for a few hours per day in the shade for a couple of days, then more and more time and sunlight exposure over a total of maybe a week. This allows the plants to get used to more intense sunlight and possibly heat.

either that or possibly powdery mildew? Google "cucumber powdery mildew" Dave's Garden and it'll pull up discussions right here on this website.

LMK what you find out, 'cause I'll be growing cukes for the first time!

More likely windburn/sunscald. Powdery mildew prefers mature plants.

My first guess was sunscald, too. They've been pampered and protected inside, and that transition to the outside can be quite a shocker! I know Critterologist wrote an article a while back about how to "harden off" your seedlings. That's the process of gradually letting them get acclimated to the outdoors, instead of doing it very suddenly.

Ah, here it is! There are so many awesome articles in the Dave's Garden archives. It's a great place to begin, if you are searching for information!

Hope this helps!
