My Grandmother planted elephant garlic before she died a couple of years ago. In the same area there are some irises and wild onions. My Aunt is concerned about crossbreeding. They had that happen with some wild gourds (native to the area) and squash a few years back. I do not believe that the garlic will cross with the others, but I could be wrong. Is there a possibility of them crossing?
Elephant garlic question
It definitely can't cross with the iris, they're in completely different families. They are in the same genus as onions though so it may be possible for them to cross with those. But the crossing would only affect things if you're collecting seeds from them, as long as you propagate them by dividing the clumps you won't have to worry.
Thank you. I did not think there was concern.
