I am looking for a plant that will meet the following conditions:
*survive a dry, fairly steep hillside in Zone 5 (Aurora, Colorado)
*at least 8 ft. tall, but not taller than 25 feet (will be located between two houses)
*will be planted next to a window, so it should be attractive and fragrant (for when the window is open)
*receives mostly western exposure (some sun, but is also shaded in the afternoon by a house)
Is there such a thing, or am I just dreaming of the perfect plant? :)
Thanks!
Fragrant shrub recommendation for Zone 5 (preferably xeric)?
It is going to be tough finding a fragrant shrub for part shade for a dry area.
You can do a advanced search here.... High Country Gardens have lots of xeric and native plants

Remember not to plant too close to your house. Recommended 4' away but then you have to consider the width of the shrub when fully grown.
Yucca will grow to about 6x6 spiky ball
also, really tough to dig up once they're established...good for erosion control
The dryness part has me stumped. I would call a local nursery or botanic garden to see what works specific to your microclimate, which means more specific than the whole zone. Any way to add some watering to that area, either through a drip irrigation system or one of those bags that slowly release the water?
