They are incredibly easy to propagate. If you have a wet spot, (like a condensate drain from an air conditioner) just push it into the ground. A little rooting hormone won't hurt, but isn't necessary. "Course right now we all have a "wet spot". I'm looking for a dry one.
California Gardening: So. Calif. Spring RU 2010 - continued
Are you referring to the Desert Willow, DP? I wish I had some branches big enough - but it's still small!! Darn, just when we have some wet ground, too.
Yes I am speaking of the Desert Willow. They are quite easy to root. Much like the Cottonwood Tree, they only need a wet spot to get started.
Looking forward to meeting everyone this weekend. :)
As are we Miguel.
Wow, that Chitalpa/Desert Willow sure looks purdy. I agree the Cottonwoods/Poplars root very easily. Out first winter here we had a common low spot with our neighbor who brought a whole bunch of naked branch cuttings in Feb. (2005) and just plunged them into the huge puddle on his side. They grew pretty fast, some he dug out and gave to me. I love free. I had looked in a catalog at willow trees and liked the description of grows fast and big. Later though (but before I bought any) I read the roots are invasive to septic and wells and some pipes. Changed my mind. It may be only some varieties though. At the nursery a gal said that conttonwoods/poplars are in the same general family as willows with same type of root system. So much for planting more of Jose's trees near our well or leach lines where I wanted shade. Are their any problems like that with the Chitalpa?
Yes, invite the Menifee person. Obviously Jo digs around alot and finds out all sorts of info!
SW if you are willing to come out to French Valley I have a source for manure. Chicken and horse. HTH

Thanks, Cayte, I'll keep it in mind.

Cayte, talk to me at the RU. We moved a four year old Chitalpa last year, so we're pretty intimate with the roots! LOL
BTW, Desert Willow is not a willow(Salix) - it belongs to the Bignonia family. That's why we like to use the Latin names!
It's all a learning experience, especially since so many plants may share a common name. Resorting to the latin is sometimes the only way we can tell them puppies apart. I learned (and even remembered) that a Tecoma stans is what I was told is a Honey Bird Bush. Eventually, it rubs off on you Cayte, you'll see.
WIB,

Hope you all have perfect weather---I know you'll have a wonderful time! Wish I could join you, but I'm sending a big group hug your way!
I'm sending one for you too Ima. I sure wish we weren't so far apart geographically.
The canna you so graciously gifted me are coming back strong! : - )
I'll be sending you photos so you can see. I should be able to split some of them next year.
I miss my northern CA DG friends, and I really wish you could be here too.
Someday . . .
Have a wonderful weekend, Ima. You will be missed.
~Hugs~

Looking for my new garden hat to wear, I swear I have a black hole in my house where everything dissappears. Don't want to end up wearing one of DH's. He has this thing for baseball type hats and has more than the local store. He has acquired a few straw ones too now. LOL
My camera is charged and ready to go. Maybe I should make a list of things I have to bring as my memory is almost shot.
See you all tomorrow!!!!!

Donna you were right about those plants that I brought being Siberian Wallflower (Erysimum x marshallii). This is a plant ID for you Cayte on the stringing plant. Look it up, you will see. It says it is a biennual so I assume it will bloom this year like the rest, but if not than let it be for next year. The Plant Files tell the info the best.
ALSO A SPECIAL THANKS TO MICHAEL AND HIS LOVELY WIFE FOR COMING TO MEET US WITH THE FAMILY.
A big thank you to Jules and Jack for hosting this years spring RU. It was the most wonderful day. There was so much to see and do. They both did such an awesome job for all of us.
It was so good to see everyone and to meet Lisa, Terri, Michael and his family and Alyssa.
The food was wonderful as usual...and the fudge, yummy.
Always good times with Rodica and Marie here.
Thank you everyone!
Oh my goodness, how did I forget to mention meeting Heather and Donald was great too!?

weegy,
It was our pleasure to host this RU. Because so many people helped out, I did have a chance to talk to most everyone who came, at least for a little while.
Aside from Michael's son's cell phone, after everyone left, I found several plants in a group on a table right next to a black vest and a black sweater? I also have someone's aluminum salad bowl and serving tongs. Lisa, I have your black cookie plate. Now how do I get this stuff back to it's owners?
It cracks me up that when people come to visit, most of them usually forget something. I'm not sure if they are plain forgetful, or if they want an excuse to come back for another visit. LOL!
Great food, great company, Great Chocolate Milk, too!
Please LMK, if you are missing anything I mentioned above. I'll try to get it to you.
It was so much fun to meet people and visit with everyone. I was tired at the end of the day, but it was so worth it.
I'd really like to thank my DH, my Kids, Kathleen, Donna, and Jo. You all really helped. It was a real treat to meet Micheal and his family, since Micheal's wife's name is hard to pronounce, I gave her a new one, "Blossom". I thought it fit, since she is a caring person. I really love Jo. She is a very special lady. Lisa is my kind of people, and has such a lovely smile. I could go on and on and on.
Thank all of you for attending the RU, and Blessing us with your company!
Jules...I had such a great time...and the salad bowl and tongs belongs to Donna..who has been bemoaning the loss all day!! It's her favorite dish!! I should have remembered to pick it up as she had so much on her mind...and I had NO mind...LOL
I enjoyed everyone...and Randy and Lisa were like "home folk" to me...
Wasn't it nice to meet Michael, Pra and Leighton...what a nice family...and Pra is a lovely young lady...
I am sorry I missed the Bee Barn though...I like to see the bees making me some good Honey. Jo
Planted all day so too tired to do anything but say thanks again.
Jules, I want to add my thanks for this great RU. It was wonderful and I had such a good time. I wish I left something there to have a reason to come back. lol
Thanks for the great hike that we had the pleasure to have you explain plants and places, for the hay ride (I went twice) and for the tour of your business.
I will treasure this visit , in my heart always.
Thanks everybody for your friendship. You made us feel like home.
This was my third R.U. and I get to know each person a little better with each successive one. Lisa and I had a wonderful time. Frankly, Lisa was a little apprehensive about going, she's a little shy about meeting so many people at once, but she sends her warm regards to everyone.
Quoting Lisa: "I had a wonderful time. I don't remember when I've had so much fun. Thanks Jules for hosting and thanks Jack for the hay ride and the bee barn tour. I look forward to meeting all of you again."
I could just say "ditto".
Oh yeah, that black plate IS a good reason to come back, HUH?
Can't think of a single person I wouldn't love to see again. I know I was sore yesterday. My poor feet. I'm glad to know who the plate and salad bowl belong too. By all means DP, we'd love to see you and your lovely DW again. I'll even hide the plate so the kids don't break it. LOL! Better do it before Buddy figures it out though. He is a monster cat sometimes. Always a fun character.
Jo, anytime you want to find some trouble, I'm your wingwoman! LOL! Yes, it was really nice to meet Michael and his family. I enjoyed talking to them very much. : - )
Rodica, after reading Adina's last post to me, I had no idea that you two had so much in common. I thought that it was great to meet you and have a chance to talk.
Marie, you were so sunburned, I should have made you wear a hat or put on sunblock. I hope you are feeling better now. Marie was having a lot of fun running the ridges and climbing the rocks. She's also as funny in person as she is in her posts.
You AZ folks are always welcome to come visit. I hope you do, and I hope I make it to AZ sometime too!
Donna, I have your salad bowl and tongs in safe keeping. I'll get you a dmail about the best way to send them back to you.
Now, if only I knew whose clothes that were left here. Has to be a kid. gr8cayte, did your son leave any clothing here? If not they must belong to Leighton, and I'll rather mail one pkg. to him than two. Please let me know, ASAP!
Many thanks, for all the great memories we made at the Round Up. I am sore (muscle aches), but happy. : - )
I'll be downloading my photos later on today.
WIB!

Jules and Jack Adding our thanks for all your hard work and hospitality. It truly was a wonderful, memorable day. We were so happy to see the "old" faces and how delightful to have so many new ones. A special thank you to Michael and his family for coming all that way to be with us.
Sylvia and Rob
Don't worry yourself about that plate. It's the only black one so Lisa isn't that particular about getting it back. It can, however, be our reason to come back up there. We may even forget it again!!
What a great day!
Thanks everyone for welcoming us and thanks for the fantastic food. I was so much fun meeting all of you.
We were all talking on the way back home as to our favorite parts and it was pretty unanimous that the old oak tree was just fantastic. What a wonderful place Jules & Jack!
Michael
You can join us any time Miguel! It was so nice meeting you. Your family is beautiful. Thanks for sharing a great time with us. See you soon?!!?!?
Jules, Jack - What wonderful hosts you are, appearing relaxed and able to 'be with' the rest of us. As if just being with each other is not enough, we had so many other diversions, hay ride, rooster catching, bee learning and even swimming if we wanted!
To the rest of the gang, it was a pleasure spending the day with you all, some again, some for the first time. Great food. Thanks so much for the many plants, I really do hope I can get something going prolific enough to share. Something! Does anyone have a problem with my sharing any of the photos posted with friends?
Not at all QC.
Michael,
It was a pleasure to meet your DW, (Darling Wife, aka Blossom) and your DFS (Dear Forgetful Son), and of course yourself. I enjoyed talking with you, and hope that you come visit again.
Well, QG, I don't know if DP realized he was part of the entertainment, LOL! As for the rest, it was our pleasure. I know that Fred appreciates having a new home and his own harem.
I don't have any problem with you sharing my photo as long as I'm not wearing my regalia. Even then I'd let ya if you asked first. You have my permission too.
Off to post RU photos!
Enjoy!

Post 'em Linda.
Ditto Michael, it was my favorite thing too.
That is Nick my son with my one year old gd, Shelby Shalane.
Too sweet, wish they could have joined us.
I think they would have had fun on the hay ride, then made Grandma chase all over the place trying to keep them from walking on the flowers. Baily already helps Nana in the garden. he he he! I told my dd that I would pass it on to one of the girls, since my beautiful grandma, passed it on to me.
Too sweet! : - )
Maybe next time? DH says that if we can host the RU again he'd like to do it down my Grandmother Oak tree. We'll still have a tour of my garden, gh, and the bee barn.
