Oh yeah, ok makes sense...but it looks unfinished.
Garden Projects 3 - 2010
Well got some really rotted manure dug in to the whole left side and first half of the right side of the alley garden. Glad I got that much done before the rain tomorrow. A little here a little there, by Aug. I should be done with planting. LOL
Finished the fence. I'm pooped and I did not even have the tougher part. My wife's stepdad did the hump work - digging the holes with all the rocks and roots getting in the way. I mixed the concrete, filled in the post holes and screwed the sections to the posts. Nice to have privacy again.
Victor saw the greatest Maxine cartoon this AM. If the neighbors play their music too loud go out and dance naked, they'll turn it down and not look your way. Instant privacy or a citation guaranteed.LOL Ric
will not have extra dirt after all - moved almost half of what is left and should have enough to top off the asparagus bed and plant what i have coming the next few weeks.
did get some planting done today - 4 clems from debbie are in - moved a jm - planted a montgomery spruce and another ever green one - also planted a tree to replace the redbud i cut down - only have one conifer to plant outside although i need to wait as i have a few coming in and still need to decide who goes where.
noticed one of my older clems has a few babies that i'll move to other locals
Noticed while doing the fence yesterday that the two JM's munched down to sticks last year are both putting out shoots above the graft. Maybe...
Got a price of $150 to take down the large dead JM out front. It's about 30 feet high. Seems like a decent price. I had them a few times before. I will have to watch like a hawk because of all the valuable plants underneath - especially the dwarf JM's and the golden hydrangea that took forever to get to this decent size.
that would make me a nervous wreck ... but better that way than coming down on it's own
I'm sure I'll be on edge. I will emphasize (again and again) their importance!
that is an ok price - if i was closer i'd do it for you - i might move out what you can first and replant after they leave to be safe - especially dwarfs - dig an over-sized hole and wrap the root balls in burlap and keep them wet - unless it is in the deal that they hit it they bought it - at a minimum they should take it down a branch at a time with ropes to direct them out of harms way.
i had a similar discussion with the guy who fixed the leak in my roof - he would like to do the replacement roof when we need it - maybe 5-7 years - i asked him how he would get the singles off the roof and any plants disfigured would be replaced with similar sized ones - i am willing to pay extra to protect them.
what did you decide on to replace it?
I am hesitant to move them. Might cover them with large trash containers.
Will replace it with three things - the red leaf cornus, a witch hazel (Danny) and Crypyomeria Sekkan Sugi.
I would love a witch hazel
did you get the red leafed dogwood yet? how tall?
really happy with the cherokee sunset from ric - it has been out under the deck for a few weeks and is has been slow to bud out - thought it would be ahead of the dogwoods here.
sounds like a few things will battle the sun until they grow up. i have a couple sections like that since i cut down those maples last winter.
Yes - from Wildwood. About five feet. Of course, the leaves are green! Hopefully the sun will change that.
:)
hope it is not like the burgundy hearts redbud i got last year - advertised as purple all season long and it went green on me - the forest pansy has better color- paid a lot for that one too.
speaking of forest pansy - saw one at a nursery a couple towns over, a real tree, huge root ball maybe 8' after planting, fully branched for $179 - went to the another nursery yesterday and saw it again, little 4'r barely branched for $139 - crazy the $ difference although the little one was in an expensive zip code - still looking for one to show up at hd or lowes cheap in case my resurrection does not work out on mine - great tree.
Yes it is. I really like it and was considering another for out front.
Just realized, while looking out the LR toward the pond, that I could see 8 JM's in the general area! I better cool it.
Victor - there are worse addictions than JMs. LOL
Wow! Bill, I'm amazed at all the work you're getting done over at your place. But you do have time. I only have a few days a week to work in my gardens, and a couple hours after work 2 days a week. I have less time if the weather is nasty. Wish I had a lot more time for my projects. Your new clem trellis looks great. I love it. I want to make one now.
Holly, interesting use of Playboys. LOL! Love the bathtub pond, too. Very creative! I have a toilet that I will be planting with coleus this year. I need a sink and bathtub to go with it. Love the rocks you got from the neighbors, Ric! Nice haul!
Pat, your projects are coming along nicely. Can't wait to see them finished.
Please excuse me if I missed anyone. I tried my best to get caught up, but finally decided I would have to skim through many of the posts, even skipping some or I'd be here all night. I pretty much checked out all the ones with pics.
