Sherrie, that's a turret. I love the house, Ric!
Bill, I don't think that's enough dirt.
Have fun with the woodpeckers Patti!
Garden Projects 3 - 2010
Did nothing today. Way too #^^%&%&&%-ing hot! Back out tomorrow. Have to plant the clems and trees.
worked outside all day and finished three more beds and half way done with the big one behind the fire pit - close to half my dirt is gone - do not think i have moved this much in two days ever - drank lots of water
Only half. Wuss.
i need a body rub - would be happy with just an arm rub though - will haunt the wife till she gives in:)
I had to rake the garden so son could till, & added some lime & humus & cow manure....that was 6 hours ago, & my face is still red...plus had to go to dr. for a shot since the poison ivy is on my face now.
So, Bill......you're getting breast implants to get a job since your wife doesn't need them? Wow...if you get a job, who will play with the mushroom stems? Or who will give us our tour of your property? Or who will come play with our Big Stones with us???? You can't be serious about wanting a job.... can you? LOL
I have the same question about the plastic surgery path to employment during a recession. How do you afford it??? Really dumb idea! I saw the guy on tv talking about how he was having his (not bad-looking) nose made smaller in order to have a better shot at getting hired. What????!!!! Makes me think of the Seinfeld episode when the nose-job goes bad and Kramer tells the poor gal how bad she looks. I think it's time to evaluate priorities when it comes to this!
Oh, I forgot to say ...Victor, is that you complaining about the HEAT outside??? I looked at the weather in NH and Conn versus here today. It was actually cooler here than in NH or Conn. Bizarroworld!
YES!! Too hot, too fast!
It was perfect here......69 in S. China but made it up to 83 in Portland. Had to go to the Jet Port and pick Auntie T , she came home from Florida today. ^_^
DH was not impressed w/Portlands heat anymore than you were Victor. Hee hee he
We are in Vt. Hot today up here too, but we were running errands all day, so no work outside. We have filled the truck up with bags of Moo Doo, Milorganite, Peat, Pro-mix, bird suet, thistle seed, and a fruiting quince tree, dog food, , plus 450 feet of 3' rabbit fence as well as tons of pantry things for Nantucket. We hate having to shop in the summer, so we load a basement pantry closet up with all manner of non perishable foods, drinks as well as cleaning and paper goods Looking at it you would think we were members of some wacky dooms day group. We will stop on the way home to fill up a cooler with protein for the freezer. So if the veggie garden grows we will need very little, mostly dairy, to keep us fat and happy all summer.
We are going to go to the local nurseries tomorrow I just might be able to tuck a few more live things in the truck. Pansies for sure. Then we have to rake, serious mess up here. Patti
You humble me. Dang, I just showed the photo to DH, but he didn't offer to build me a trellis. We have tons of saplings in out Vt woods to cut down, maybe next trip. Patti
Looks good, Bill. I put in a new trellis and did a mini version of that to plant two clems. PLanted the four clems today. Unpacked the four trees from Wildwood. All look good. Now where to put them?!!
Planting Debbie's clems under shrubs is difficult because of the size. Hard to dig a big enough hole without doing some real root damage to the shrub.
patti i think we are in the same category as far as yard work goes:) and the trellis are easy to make - just need a lot of screws and saplings - and i do feel it from moving all that dirt, trust me. a lot of it is going up top in front and that is all up hill - will do the day lily bed next and the front gets what ever is left.
victor i hear you on the size of debbie's clems - although i would not worry too much about the roots to the shrubs if they have been there a while - they will survive
True, but I think I may have lost a few clems because they were not deep enough. Was probbaly too concerned about the shrub.
That looks great, Bill. I really like those trellis's! whoa on the heavy physical labor.......that's a heckuva lot of hauling!! At least it looks like you worked hard!!! LOL
Nice trellis Bill, trying to get Brian to make me a few. Just bought a nice arbour so he can have a pattern to make me a few more. ^_^
nice pattern!
Thank you, now to see how he does. :)
Nice work, Bill....you will have some happy clems & JMs! I like that arbor, Pixie. Patti, you are like my late father....he would clip coupons, get the best prices, & stock the basement....now that he's gone, my Mom stores nothing...keeps a fridge going for just a few items.
you guys are good!!!
Planted two JM's - Lemon Lime Lace and Cynthia's Crown Jewel. The clems were Minuet, Belle of Woking, Alba Luxurians and Kermesina.
I saw Lemon-Lime Ice yesterday when I got my Greer's catalog...very nice! The only clem I know in the list is Belle of W....do you have a site for the others?
I did two on the trellis, one under a rose and the other under a viburnum.
Oh my goodness I am tired just hearing about Bills dirt moving extravaganza. Bed is looking fantastic and I love the trellis structures you made. Also like Pixies arbor and Victor seems to be on the move with great combos of shrubs and clems too. I am slugging along with my new bed extension. Small strip of grass to get out left. I got slowed down by the heat and yesterday was getting attacked by little gnats that wanted to fly into my eyes, ears and nose, drove me nuts. Good thing there are showers today because the vertigo is attacking me today and even typing is an effort with the room spinning around. One thing I know is there are going to be a lot of beautiful pics of gardens this summer. Well done all.
Pat - I hope your vertigo goes away quickly! No fun! I wonder if it is related to the high pollen count now. I recall that the last bout I had with it was during pollen season. The meclizine works well for me if I take it right away. Feel better!
Wow, sorry Pat...I had a friend hospitalized last week with vertigo.
I've had that. Not fun. For the Birds, as Hitchcock might say.
pat now you have me thinking i should order a couple more clems and put two under each?? will have to think about that.
Oh they can certainly handle more than one! I would do 2 or 3.
you are probably right - they are 71" tall (i messured) - debbie ships monday so i will add to the order tomorrow.
And very wide.
only two feet at the base - and i just ordered two more clems for them
Four sides.
i am unemployeed can you get me 4 more?
Sides?
I get vertigo every now and then, BPPV, last time with nausea and vomiting, didn't realize it was from the vertigo, thought I had the flu. Feel better!
While you're at it Victor, I'll take 4 clems too.
