Daily pics vol. 299

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Woohoooo, (can't believe I'm this cheerful in a rainy day), but I was so happy and grateful these two birds brightened my day dispite the bad weather outdoor.

Nan, we posted at the same time. The Redbellied is abundant here too. I believe mine (RB) have taken over the Redheaded's tree house. I haven't seen the Redheaded Woodpeckers around their nest lately. They are spotted in the area though....just not at their same nest.

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Nanny, very pretty House Finch. Love the red-bellied too.

Lily, love those towhees!

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Duc, the Towhees seem to be very peaceful kind of birds. They perch near by Doves and others without picking a fight. My kind of birds, lol.

Lily. the only things that bring the Cedar Waxwings to my yard are a tree I planted when I moved in here over ten years ago, an East Palatka Holly. The berries ripen early spring before the Waxwings head North. They also love the berries on my Florida Privets, which should be ripe just about the time they start leaving. If I could do my yard over again I would add a lot more things that have berries. I recently transplanted several young Florida Privets along a section where my Hibiscus were killed back to the ground. They are coming back, but I would rather let the Privets take over the area, so they can provide food for the birds, and are hardy too.

Lily_love - that reflection of the Canadian Geese was really nice. I have some 'water chickens', too, but not in the numbers you do. AND that pic of the Bald Eagle flying across pasture that is spotted with cows is great!

ducbucln - Quote, "Hack, if you're not careful, someday you'll be posting photos of all your cameras and lens to match Dave's! Congrats on the new camera." Thanks for the compliment, but matching Dave's, yeah, right. :-) AND the pics of the Bullock's Oriole are great. What a nice colored bird. I have one hummingbird feeder out, but nothing has visited it yet, as far as I know.

gardenpom - Cute Catbird, I'll say. I haven't had any visit, yet. AND it looks like your good old Blue Jay was leaning into the wind. AND that Indigo Bunting is gorgeous.

Burd_Fotos - nice pics, especially the female Downy, AND I'd sure like to a visit from a yellow variant House Finch. AND that White Mallard is great, but I wouldn't know one from a regular ole pond duck. How did you pick up on it?

nanny_56 - Your Cardinal on the Dinner Bell feeder, with the HOFIN, sure has a nice red color. AND the closeup of the piggy Blue Jay is sharp.

2dCousinDave - The pic of the mockingbird eating the forsythia blossom is just too cool.

dellrose - I like the looks of the Meadowlark. I've never seen one. I guess the Eastern version is the one I'd see. Is yours an Eastern version? AND I envy you your Bluebirds - pretty.

gazergirl - you're right, that female cardinal is drop dead gorgeous.

reddirtretiree - looks like you're gonna soon be seeing some baby BBs. AND the shot of the Eastern Meadowlark is really nice.

Elphaba - Man, your pics of the Hooded Warbler are great.

I had the occasion to snap a few for the Daily Pics thread.

This Mockingbird landed on one of my planters, right outside the window. I think it sees me.

Not one of my proudest pics, but I did see this Pine Warbler and snapped this shot through the window, screen and all.

For my last one, a male Downy Woodpecker, I reckon its a Downy, can't see his tail feathers - but I've yet to see a Hairy Wp, anyway. I attached the suet feeder to a board to give woodpeckers something to support themselves on with their tail feathers. Looks like he's using it.

I decided, I like all the warblers, doesn't matter which species! Most of them seem to prefer bugs and such, except for the Orange Crowned Warbler? (The only that came to my suet and grains feeders). Hack, I'm still on the mission of luring Mockingbirds and Blue Jays to grain feeders. lol No such luck yet.

Very creative with that suet feeder support for our feathered friends, Hack. Nice job.

Columbus, GA(Zone 8a)

Lily, I've no shortage of Mockingbirds, but I've never seen one at a seed feeder - usually, they're just sitting around. I haven't been visited by a Blue Jay in a while - but I have seen them on the ground feeding on seed spillage for overhead feeders.

The idea for the suet support board came from a bird magazine - I found that I could build one MUCH cheaper than buying one - it was fun, too. I've made quite a few.
