I am rooting 3 varieties of organic sweet potatoes to plant mid-April. The roots are growing out of the bottom of the potatoes while the sprouts/slips are growing out of the top of the potatoes, no roots attached to the sprouts. Question: should I just plant the entire potato when the time comes? There are multiple sprouts growing out of the top of the potato & I'm planning to plant in containers. Thanks.
Rooting Sweet Potatoes Question
Just pull off and plant the individual slips, when they are about 6 inches in lenght. If you put the potato half - 3/4 submerged in water or potting soil, they slip will grow some roots before you plant them out. Some folks pull the slips and root them before planting out but I have found that step necessary.
