Hello,
I have 3 of these planted in morning sun, afternoon shade. They were planted last spring and did wonderfully all year until we had some really hard freezes this past winter. Now, each clump only has 2 to 3 healthy shoots, in addition to all the brown dead shoots. What do i need to do to them to help them come back bushy and beautiful this spring? Should they be cut back? Fertilized?
Thank you!

Variegated flax lily question
I think you're toward the lower end of their hardiness range, so if you had a bad winter they probably got damaged by the cold. I'd wait and see how well they come back for you--as you get a little farther into spring you may find they come back great all on their own. If not, then you'll have to think about taking some extra steps to protect them next winter so they don't get damaged. I wouldn't cut them back (although you could cut back any leaves that appear to be completely dead). I'm not sure if fertilizer would help them or not--if you would normally be fertilizing them now anyway then it may be alright, but I wouldn't give them extra fertilizer in hopes of that bringing them back to health.
Thank you ecrane3... I'll let them be for a while and see what happens.
