qustion about planting right in the ground...

Dunmor, KY(Zone 6a)

I have a whold bunch of seeds that I need to get started. The problem is I don't have money to buy pots or dirt. Due to being laid off & not eligable for unemployment, I have no money what so ever comeing in right now. Last year, I planted some things straight in the ground. But when something started comeing up, I didn't know if it was weeds or my plants so I didn't pull anything. Well, I guess it must have been weeds because the only thing that flowered was 4 O'Clocks, morning glorys & Zinnias. If I plant some of my seeds straight in the ground, is there any way to know if it's my plants comeing up or just some random weeds?

you can use a sharpie on popsicle sticks to make markers that should help :) stay strong and I hope these troubled times get better for you.

Planting in the ground is fine. I do it all the time. You might mark off a grid or rows that you put your seeds in. When seedlings appear that are not where they are supposed to be, then you'll know that they are weeds. The marker idea is good too. Once you do this for a couple of seasons, you'll learn to recognize what is 'good'

Many seed packets show a picture of what the seedling looks like so you may be able to tell the flowers from the weeds. It can still be confusing but it helps some plants. Wish you were closer to me--I could share some of my stuff with you.
