Fencing

(Maggie) Jacksonvill, FL(Zone 9a)

I need some decorative fencing ~2-3 foot high so I can train our dogs to stay out of my gardens. I'd like to be able to make curves. I don't want it to look cheesy. DH already rigged that kind up for temporary protection.

Thanks,

Maggie

Good luck with your 2' fence, hope your dogs are only 1' tall.
Mine jumps a 3 1/2' fence no problem...like a gazelle, I tell you!

Here he is looking all innocent.

Hi Jen,,
they're actually larger- Standard Poodles. I'm looking for a decorative visual cue I can train them not to jump over.

Thanks,

Maggie

I like how some people have done a real rustic looking fence using branches.

You can't really make curves, but Lowes has some nice looking rod-iron type fencing that is reasonably priced. You can even buy a gate with it, so that it looks good. Here is a link to the fencing. It comes in different designs.

Glad your dogs are trainable. Mine can jump a 6 foot privacy fence without any particular issue, rotten little wench! LOL!

Dear Shuggins-

Thanks for the lead. If I can put up a visible demarcation, they'll learn to avoid it. they are Standard Poodles who are not only smart but they like us and want to please. They've also been trained from puppyhood that I am Alpha "female dog" / pack leader. I'm fluent in 3 languages- English, Dementia, and Dog. LOL

Here is a little more info for you, Maggie.

Also, vinyl lattice panels can be cut into 2ft by 8ft lengths and they do have some flex to them for making curves.

Thanks for the links!

What about building an actual dog run in one part of the yard?

(Maggie) Jacksonvill, FL(Zone 9a)

Thanks Allison for the suggestion. I really like them to be able to run around in the whole yard and not in a run. They're big spoiled dog children. They can have most of the yard. I just need to give them (and my yard guy) no-no boundaries. YG knows if he comes across something unfamiliar, don't mow it /weedeat it, or otherwise destroy it. Same goes for unusually large patches of the same kind of weed. That usually means it's a larval host for a local butterfly. You can see how he might get confused. Heck, I get confused sometimes and pull strange stuff up & only after finishing do I realize those were from the seeds I planted last year. LOL The dogs just need a taller visual cue that we humans do.

Thanks,

Maggie
