Hi Marilyn
LOL!!!!!!^_^
Karen

i have been thinking about hollowing out some hickory that i haven't split yet.
Its clay. I have to keep it in the garage over winter.Made it last fall in my GF studio.
Nice. Looks like a place for the artsy birds.

was able to get the lower front yard edged, left over leaves raked up, and finished the 5th mushroom cap - also cut out the depression in a stone for a bird bath although still need to chip out the blade markings.
off to start the backyard edging now.
Showoff.
I am dying here. Youse guys are just too funny.
Love the 5* bird hotel, Wha. anxiously awaiting the unveiling of all the mushrooms.
We ( I mean DH) made some raised veggie beds for me. What a guy!!! I got them filled with compost, shredded leaves, and more compost. We'll see what this season brings.
I live in a snooooty suburb
I got most of one side of the juniper hedge done today. I was going to pile it all up and rent a chipper for a half day and make mulch but Holly wanted it gone, so we burned it, at least that part goes fast. It's pretty butchered up but I'm hoping to get enough growth to fill it back in. We were lucky in that the yard side had very little damage, the road side got the worst of it. I think the snow drifting in from the yard side actually supported it and reduced the damage. Ric

The neighbors liked that it kept the drifts from reaching the road.Ric

where's the fire?
that's a lot of work!
Hi JoAnn! Glad to see spring has sprung for you also! Nice birdhouse, love the colors! My niece is coming to CT for Easter, will get her garden plans then, & maybe set a date for visiting. My brother's heart tests came back as a leaky valve, but Dr. treating with meds right now, so we'll just wait & see.
Bill,We have a burn pile out back in the old pasture.Ric
Marilyn. I hope to see you this summer.
Ric, that's too bad about that juniper hedge. I'll bet it was road salt that caused the damage. We had some junipers by our road and they died from snow being piled on them by the plows one winter. Then I had more damage done when they piled a bunch of salty sand along the side of the road. It even killed some of the leucothoe that was there. I won't plant anything over there now that can't handle road salt. I've noticed most evergreens cannot.
Marilyn, here's praying your brother will be fine.
JoAnn, nice to see your birdhouse up. It makes me think of a beatnick pad.
Speaking of bird, the psychotic female cardinal is back, the one who attacks her reflection in my car's rear view mirrors. Blasted bird!!!!!!!!!! I have to resort to putting plastic grocery bags on my mirrors while I'm at home. When I had a car with shiny wheel covers she used to attack her reflection in them as well.
Karen
Not a big fan of junipers in general.
my neighbor had a sparrow that kept slamming into his sun room window.. over and over.. I wanted to break in his house & put something on the window... I can see why it's making you nuts Karen
That's weird, Karen!
Karen, No not road salt. The road is just a private lane that is a shared drive just 4 of us use it. It was that big snow storm we had last month. They can be prone to snow damage and when it was smaller we would go out and knock the snow off of it but it is much too big now. It is big enough now that most snow storms don't do much damage but that storm just put down too much heavy snow. There was an 8ft drift on the yard side of the hedge and I think that helped support it so there isn't as much damage on that side. It is a huge hedge somewhere around 30 years old or so can't quite remember when we planted it. Eventually it should fill in but that could take awhile. HOLLY
Oh, okay, Holly.
Victor, I like junipers myself. Never liked yews much, but Ric and Holly, I have to say I love your huge yew hedge with the doorway.
Yes, that cardinal is very weird, Victor!
Allison, I thought I was the only one plagued by nutty birds. That cardinal and it's mate comes back every year for the last 3 or 4 years or more. She is very territorial.
Karen
There was a kamikaze cardinal by the house I grew up in. It would see its reflection in the window and dive-bomb it. It would do that until there were blood marks on the glass. It was awful. I didn't know what to do about it at the time. Wish I had!
Oh yeah, I love your bird hotel, Bill!!!!
Beatnik pad
What a howel.
thx harper - some of the rooms could stand some rody's wallpaper - know where i can find that?
Thanks, Karen...my brother is very special to me, I hate it that he's so ill. Yes, Jo, am looking forward to seeing you & Debi....& Wegman's! Harper, you could put a hawk sticker in your window.
When I come out with a wallpaper line, you'll be at the top of the list.
Marilyn, you have my hugs and support for your brother. The cardinal was in my childhood house. Now I know what to do if it happens again!
got rid of more lawn yesterday and installed one of my japanese granite lanterns - the other will go in today - photos will follow. mushrooms will wait until the hosta start to show themselves so i don't dig into one. more edging today, hope to finish the backyard.
ok here is one of the japanese lanterns in the ground - dug down 18" through some hard clay and back filled with crushed stone - grabbed some brackets from HD and McGiver'd them around the base to hold it up so i do not have to take it down in the winter - all sorts of new holes had to drilled and screwed the brackets together - hope this works the brackets were pretty expensive.
Looks great, Bill.
I like it Bill!
it's cute

Are they lighted, Bill?

they are not lighted victor - they have holes for running wire - did not want to hard wire them - who knows i may move them like i do everything else - have been looking for some quality solar lights that could work and have not found any yet.
