Mole trouble

Trabuco Canyon, CA(Zone 10a)

should I try to live with the mole I have in my flower garden or will it cause too much destrcution that I need to get rid of it? If it's just going to dig tunnels that's fine but if moles will dig out my flowers or eat their roots then it will have to go. By the way, I know it's a mole because I saw it....small, silver fur, long thin nose, wide webbed front feet, almost no tail.

As far as I know they are carnivorous. They eat earthworms, grubs and other bugs.

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

They don't eat plants, but they can do a good amount of collateral damage to roots as they tunnel through the garden, so you may still want to get rid of it.

Don't know if it works, but read where you can put used kitty litter in the mole hole and they won't return.

Conway, SC

They do not harm plants as ecrane stated, but they do make the tunnel that voles will travel in and they definately destroy plants, especially bulbs.
I have had success with moth balls. Use a broom handle to poke a hole about 3" deep and drop in the moth ball. Start where the turnnel is highest and go out spacing about 1' apart. It works !

Get rid of the grubs and you will get .rid of the mole.of cou rse there is always the chanch someone will have a little dog around that just loves to dig for moles. my son has one that just loves to dig for them I think he would dig to China . or get him .Then he will proudly lay him on my sons door step as if he had done something great after diging holes al over my yard .I would advise you to get rid of the grubs.

Ozone, AR(Zone 6a)

I read that onions will deter moles. I have Egyption onions planted all through my flower beds and have'nt had any moles.
I live in the woods.

Did I read somewhere that "voles", which do eat roots and bulbs, will often co-opt the tunnels made by moles?
I was doing some raking yesterday - now that we can actually see the ground again after all the snow we had, and I found what can only be described as a highway from the woods to the bird feeder. I mean this run consisted of several tunnels, some apparently half in snow, half in ground and so many it was over a foot wide.
Now my secret weapon will kick in and do it's job. Her name is Babe and we picked her up from a dumpster in October of '08. She was a tiny baby then. Malnourished and sickly. She was nursed back to health and despite getting all the Iam's and Science Diet she could possibly want she still takes great pride in her hunting conquest. I've seen as many as three kills in a single day.

edit: Forgot my original thought after my ramblings! Don't they call "mole-beans" "mole-beans" because they either repel or kill them?
