Sounds like it was a very good thing he had a cell phone with him. Hope he will be OK. going to be mighty sore for awhile at the very least.
Wishing you all a good night.
What's Happening in your neighbourhood - Feb. 21 and later
I couldn't sleep last night .. and feel better now hearing Kyle did well in surgery. Poor Noah (and the maternal Gramma) had to have been heart wrenching not to be able to release the winch and free Kyle .. altho .. I am thinking it was better it all happened when 911 arrived.
I TRY to remember my cell phone each and everytime I go out back with Lilly .. sometimes 'things' just happen ..
Prayers for a speedy recovery ..
~M~
Morning all..
Should have been able to sleep last night but couldn't, I'm tired/tired this morning but did get a perk..a ray of sunshine just a few minutes ago...Kyle called, said he was in a lot of pain but they are giving him something for it, he didn't talk long, knew I was worried, said he had a cast up to his elbow , just so excited that he called that I didn't even ask him which hand/arm was injured and yes, he's very mature for his age..
I bought the boys cel phones for Christmas, parents weren't sure the younger ones would handle using them in the correct manner and were leary, guess kids having phones aren't such a bad idea after all...Jeff called me about 5 times last night as he was texting with Greg and/or to find out info as Greg kept me informed, between both knowing what was going on helped..at one point I was going to meet Jeff in Elmvale and we'd travel to the hospital together but then better news came and plans changed..thank goodness for friends and family
Am hoping that all is well with Kyle.
In the midst of all your angst Betty, I have awesome NEWS !!
Lorna WALKED today, on 2 feet .. a wonderful moment and one she was reluctant to let go of, but, her prosthesis requires some 'tweaking' and, tomorrow physio therapy will escalate to a more intense pace .. but .. her prosthetist feels she'll be 'walking' in about 2 weeks .. can you BELEIVE that !!!
Attaching a pic of her prosthesis .. well almost ... nothing graphic, these things are pretty hum drum ^_^

~M~
Me too, waiting to hear from Betty.
M this is such great progress for Lorna. Been a long time coming, but this will make her life so much better.
Snow is melting here, temps are nice. Hoping we don't have too much water coming up from ND the same time it decides to rain here. They had a lot of snow up river from us. Think this year we'll be OK, though.
Speaking of prosthesis......
Last summer a fellow came down the street and stopped to speak to me - he lives in the next block and came specifically to ask to see my garden. He was wearing shorts and had a very interesting 'cast' on his leg - it had Oh Canada printed on the cast- words and music- likea page of sheet music ! I commented on it eventually and it turned out it was actually an artificial leg and he had the graphic specially put on it. Neat!
Good news for Lorna!
Betty hope things are going well with your grandson.
My little foster Caramel is going to her new forever home tomorrow.
Just to give you an idea how small she is here is Bailey who is 16 inches and Caramel who is no more than 13 inches.
Marilyn - that's sooooooo fabulous that Lorna was able to "walk" and will be truly walking in 2 weeks!!!
Prayers have been answered for both Lorna & Kyle! (well, we Knew They Would Be!)
♫♪~§usan~♪♫
Waiting to hear about Kyle!
Marilynne what super news for Lorna! That carbon fiber leg looks very high tech. She must be very excited. Am looking forward to hearing that she is up and running away with her new found freedom.
Carol, that little sweetie....I'm so pleased you were able to find a good home for her.
Now you can be off to rescue more "kids". Every time you post a photo I keep asking myself if we have room, time for one more, maybe one day we will be able to be considered.
Ann
Marilynne - thanks for sharing that super news about Lorna.
Thanks to everyone for the congrats for Lorna, she's pretty humble .. BUT .. so excited about this. We all know the road is still winding ahead of us .. but .. it's looking a bit more friendly.
Thought I;d pop in before bed to see if there was any news re Kyle .. NO news is Good news I guess ..
Carol .. that LITTLE Caramel is unbelievably SWEET .. good luck to her in her forever home ..
G'night all
~M~
Hello there, got busy this morning here at work, imagine had to work and put down my crochet and movie watching...
I got to visit with Kyle last night, he's such a nice young man, was more worried about everyone worrying and his brother being so distressed at not being able to help that I just swelled with pride..cast to elbow, fingers all wrapped so wasn't able to see damage..few wires are coming out of his fingers keeping bones and finger together I'm told, once healed guess the wires come out..NOT that I wanted to see...he will be staying with his grandparents about 1/2 hr. from his home, Greg and Melanie will pick him up/bring him in the morning so that he's not alone just incase he needs something..don't want him taking painkillers and staying alone...
WOW, sure took the wind out of my sails...so easy for your life to be totally taken apart..how do people who lose children and grandchildren ever cope? Kyle asked me to thank you all for your prayers...
What a GLORIOUS day, it's in upper 60's..went out to lunch and hated to come back..I so want to go home and play in the garden tonight but know the minute I rake up ground cover that is protecting my little ones it will snow...this weekend I've promised myself to get the pond up and going, there is a lot of movement in it so even if it does snow or get cold it will not affect it...I so love the sound of water...
Carol, how thrilled for Caramel to have found a new forever home...something you didn't anticipate right?
"M" it must bring smiles to see Lorna getting her independence back..will she continue to stay with you or will she be going back to her own home? now that you've had her with you you'll surely miss her..
So once again dear friends..thank you .. it certainly makes the road we travel much easier seeing friends on it!
Betty
Pleased to hear that Kyle is ok , on his way to being well, and you have had a chance to see him. There is nothing like being there in person to ease your mind.
Ann
Oh Betty what wonderful news re Kyle .. does a soul good to see a young person with an attitude like that.
So .. today we walked !!! LOTS .. and, with Lorna's permission I have a few pics.
Like Betty , and Kyle, Lorna thanks everyone in this forum as well for prayers and thoughts ..
~M~
!st pic .. pumping iron ... a full set of exercises has to be done before Lorna can get into her prosthesis to walk ..
GO, LORNA, GO!
Great to see you on two!
Ann
So nice to see put a face to the name..how wonderful..omg you just don't think when you hear of someone getting arm/leg just the amount of work that they have to do...she's some lady...give her a hug for me will you...
She must be doing great, look at the smiles on the therapists faces.....
How absolutely fantastic...
"M" thanks for taking the time to bring us into her therapy room...gave me a better insight!
Lordy, is it time to go home yet..been yawning all afternoon...
Lorna - You Go Girl!!
not a day goes by that I don't say prayers for you, and from the look on your face (you determined lady, you) you're giving as good as you get ^_^
It's fabulous that you have the will, and determination, to get the job done!!!
You'll have yourself back gardening again and I can hardly wait to hear about it ^_^
Thanks everyone ^_^
Lorna IS quite the human being, 'gentle of heart, and strong in spirit'!
After almost having lost her twice in 6 months, this stretch in her journey is being smiled upon and NEVER taken for granted. The therapists are marvelous folks, empathetic and knowledgeable.
I KNOW once she gets that leg permanently figured out, she'll be 'HEL* ON HEELS' LoL
She has already been doing yard clean up from her wchair !!!
Again thanks so much .. Lorna has always appreciated your many kindnesses ..
~M~
Great photos showing incredible will and determination. Betty's comment echoes my thoughts.
I'm with Betty - nice to put a face to the name. Agreed also with MG's comments above - lots of determination there. She deserves a lot of support and she'll do well with that leg.
Betty, any update on Kyle?
We've got a sick Cooper (our black lab). Yesterday he was vomiting, and very lethargic, totally unlike him. Wouldn't eat or drink yesterday. The vet checked him over, his physical exam was normal as was his blood work. We've even ruled out pancreatitis, something he's prone to. So we've had him home, trying to get home to drink. Not having any luck and then this afternoon he started vomiting again. He's at the vet's overnight, with an IV. If he vomits again or if they think it's warranted they'll do an x-ray. We'll know more in the morning. It's such a worry when he never complains and we don't know why he's sick. It's a pretty quiet place around here tonight.
Linda
AWwww .. sure hope Cooper perks up Linda. Do you think he may have eaten something from the ground ? ie a weird weed or flower .. have known other folks who have cats and dogs do that. That said, it's kinda tough to figure out WHAT the mystery plant might be.
These fur persons are so close to our hearts, I wish Cooper a speedy recovery.
Another glorious SPRING day here in Thunder Bay .. I do believe we have had record setting temps at least 3 out of 5 days !!
Funeral to attend today.
Hard to believe it's Thursday already .. is it just me or are the days WHIZzzing by ??
Take care all .. hope to hear Kyle is feeling even better today ^_^
~M~
Morning..overcast today but a high of 17 is called for BUT, don't like the but, calling for snow next week..
OMG got to work in the yard last night for 1 hr. felt so nice..didn't go crazy and rake, nope, just picked up branches and did pull some dead plant remnants and did some burning..here I was picking up what I could for the pit and there was an envelope, all covered with dried mud, picked it up and wouldn't you know it was the swap quilt block I thought I had put in the garbage the day I was to mail it..was late getting the block out, had to remake it..opened the envelope and not a mark on it..amazing..guess I put it with my coffee on the hood of my car while I set the garbage out, took the coffee and forgot the envelope..meanwhile the plowman came and there it sat..safe and sound under 5' of snow..odd that it didn't blow away!!! that was my morning surprise...
I have difficulties keeping ivy alive in the house, either I water too much or not enough, while near the pond and cleaning a bit, isn't there about a 2' area covered in ivy..now how could this be..survived snow, cold and yet if I had it in the house dead it would be...
Have a heck of a time not sleeping or when I sleep feels like I've not slept..guess with the time change and then the worry over Kyle my body is reaction..imagine, we're at Thursday and I didn't even do an evening craft..lol
"M" and all, watched a bit of the Olympics and saw that Lauren not only took the gold skiing but broke her own record I believe..now why aren't these Olypics having as much time on t.v. as the other..imagine, she was born no legs below the knee and 1 arm and she is able to accomplish such a feat..have shivers just thinking of all the obstacles these athletes have conquered...
the young man from Midland (few miles down the road from me) in the hockey has been said to be on same level as Bobby Orr and yet little is heard of him...
Linda, sure hope Cooper is doing better this morning..such a worry for you!
Thank you again for your concern re Kyle..spoke with him last night, said he's trying not to take painkillers and it's been hard..much pain but all and all he's doing great!
Thanks for the good wishes. The word from the vets office is he had a good night, they're going to try to feed him. we'll call mid afternoon to see if we can bring him home and see if they have any idea what is/was wrong.
I'm glad you're getting to have some Spring signs, it always does a body good.
~M~ sorry to hear you're at a funeral.
Betty, speaking as a nurse, Kyle would be OK to take pain pills for the first week after a huge injury like he's had. He's young, he's stoic, and in pain. Take the drugs. I hope you sleep better too.
A good day wished to all.
Linda
Sorry to hear that Cooper is not well, it's so hard when they can't tell you what is wrong.
Hope the food stays down and that he's home soon.
Betty, I'm not a nurse and I advocate taking the drugs if the pain is unmanagable. You can get better faster if you are not using your strength to fight the pain.
I too wish the 2nd olympics were televised more, what a thrill for the competitors to be in their home country. Go Canada Go!
It's snowing here and blowing and almost feels like fall. Oh well spring is coming and days are longer so soon we will have wee ones poking their heads out just like the other zones.
Ann
Snowing, please be a friend and keep it there Ann...temps are dropping here, think I need a spring coat for morning and winter jacket for the afternoon
Had hoped Cooper would be on the mend today..could he have gotten into something without your knowing? I'm sure you've checked that aspect...
Thanks for info re painkillers....will tell Kyle!
Counting the minutes..this day has been so long..guess it's the change in time, not sure why it throws me for a loop
Totally agree with Linda re Kyle and the analgesics (pain killers) .. he should take them for at least a week to 10 days .. it just makes recovery so much less hurtful.
Re Cooper .. keeping up only the good thoughts .. met a friend at the funeral today whose Weimaraner (sp) had similar symptoms and it was found he had swallowed a stone/rock and it blocked hi bowel .. course .. these folks LET 'Spotter' chase rocks .. it was his idea to swallow'em I guess ..
LOL Betty re the envelope .. I haven't found ANY treats this year .. YET !!! Lorna was saying when she was with the landscaping company in Toronto it wasn't unusual to find money on the properties they cared for .. BRING ON THE $$$ ^_^
Funeral was a childhood friend of DH .. HUGE turnout ... fellow was just 58 ..
Off to make supper ..
Take care
~M~
Funeral's are always tough to attend and worse when they are close.
Re: dogs chasing/eating stones. I have a friend who's dog chewed stones, they had a huge vet bill for teeth issues, he wore them out chewing the stones.
We will keep the snow here and all the moisture we can, it's been a dry winter for us.
Hay went up last year to 10.00 for small square bale and I don't want to see it do that again.
As it is I am starting to push snow onto my south and west beds by the house where it's warm. Thankfully we still have a foot most other places but it won't last long.
Ann
Could do "M" with finding money, except I never have any to go missing..lol..always something calling that wants my $$$..will post a few photo's of what took it today! drats I'm an expensive lady to keep! lol
That's awfully young to pass on isn't it..I have difficulties attending funerals..usually I make a quick visit to the funeral home and rarely attend the actual funeral..coward of me but it's hard..loss about 8 close family members within a few years, just can't do it...
Not knowing how much hay is Ann could you tell me on a regular year how much you'd pay...guess it's much the same as fruit coming in from Florida..with all the cold we'll be paying high market price...I was at Wendy's the other day ordering lunch, had a sign saying that tomato crop being poor quality and costly that when you ordered you had to specifically ask for tomato and you'd get it ONLY if they had a supply..just goes to show you how it soon will affect us even in restaurants..maybe they'll charge a premium when ordering..
Don't know why I thought your snow would be gone much sooner than here...crazy winter..
Thats beautiful Betty My Mom used to make quilts, mostly either applique or X-stitched tops like your. The last quilt I had of hers and also a crocheted bedspread spent a lot of years in a drawer and a few years ago I donated them to a hospice as I knew they liked to have things like that on the beds.
Cool and windy here, probably the edge of your storm Ann or maybe it is coming in this direction! A friend in for lunch but too cool to sit outside.
We are back to 'normal' in this house as Caramel left yesterday. She seems to be doing well in her new place.
Wow, Betty. That's a lot of work that went into that and you'll treasure it for a long time.
Today was appointments. Physio this morning and a mammogram just after noon. (Oh joy!)
Found a nice spring jacket on sale at Tabi - had just about decided I would have to patch up the old one.
And when I dropped some books off to the ongoing used book sale at my local library, I found a 650 page book - Practical Guide to Gardening in Canada - A Definitive Illustrated Manual of Gardening Techniques, Planning, and Maintenance. A former library copy but 2001 vintage - so not THAT old. Bought it for DD in Vancouver - cost me $2. I could have had it for $1, but figured the $$ goes to a good cause.
Bells this evening and I had everyone there including one ringer who was south for 6 weeks and whose DH was hit by a car and severely injured in S. Carolina on the way home. He's still in hospital in Ottawa, but making progress slowly.
I hope Kyle takes those pain killers to smooth his recovery.
Ann
OK can someone tell me why my time is wrong? I went to my preferences and changed it to EDT but it's reading an hour later that it should. Does the new DG change time automatically?
I had the same problem last year.. I couldn't ever figure out why mine also was an hour off.. I just altered my time zone until i had the right time on here for my zone.. It worked that way..
Beautiful quilting Betty.
Cooper's home, we and the vets are cautiously optimistic that (if) whatever he ingested has run it's course and he's on the road to recovery.
Thanks for the good thoughts.
Linda
