They sure played well, that Morris fellow was spot on.
I'm hoping the men's hockey team was practicing hard today, finding new ways to beat the USA goalie
What's Happening in your neighbourhood - Feb. 21 and later
Super game (curling) last night .. the teams sure knew how the ice was running, haven't seen that many perfect draws to the button in quite some time ~~
NOW .. lets get'er done and won in ice hockey !!! Going to be a fast game I hope, with FEW penalties.
Hard to believe the Olympics are close to an end!! Fastest 2 weeks in my life I think, and I am SO proud to be a Canadian ^_^
~M~
ditto....
The most lasting memory I will take away from these Olymics is people singing Oh Canada when the flag was raised. ( And a couple of times spontaneously during the curling!)
It always saddens me when the national anthem is played that people do not sing it - it really is very singable ! Maybe the past 2 weeks will change that.
Carol - I agree that the anthem is really singable, (MUCH more so than the American anthem) but I think a lot of people are unsure of the words. Around here, we get it sung half in English, half in French. Maybe they should just do it twice - once in EACH language. As for me, when I first moved to Ottawa and was teaching school, I was still American. I learned the words as they were in 1970 and have always been a bit iffy about parts of them since they were changed.
As for the hockey game, may the best team win. I fail to understand how people can get so wound up about winning a game played by spoiled millionaire PROFESSIONALS.
There HAVE been some really wonderful moments of these Olympics. One of my favourites was in the women's ski cross when one of the competitors fell near the top, picked herself up and made it down the hill only to fall again as she came over the last jump, skid to the finish and raise her arms in a flourish to say "I'm here!" And we have to give due credit to Joannie Rochette as she struggled to overcome her grief. I expect the next week will be hard for her w/o the distraction of the Olympics.
Ann
Gold for the hockey team! 14 golds for Canada- an Olympic recrd!
Ann I actually dont know the 'new' words to Oh Canada, was living outside the country for 13 years when they changed them. So I just sing the original words!
Hello all
Hope everyone's enjoying the Olympics
Today my DH made Divisionals, in Bowling! I'm so proud of him!
Ciao, and take care,

Is there a party going on in your neighborhood..
Must say the same, finally we see patriotism in it's finest..always admired that of the people of the USA for their being proud of being a USA citizen..
For the first time I see Canadians being proud of being a Canadian..not just one individual but as a nation....
Lord is watching over us today!
oh YESSSSSSSSS it's the first of March no snow left rain on the way could anyone ask
for more not me 20 more days until the first day of spring.MG99 love the pic it looks so warm.mmmmmmmmmm the times are wrong

What a great hockey game! Was a bit surprised (but pleased) at the sudden death because the way the CTV people put it, it sounded like there would be a full 20 minute OT period. Saw the last part of the closing ceremony - had a rehearsal earlier, but I've got the early part on tape for another day.
Morning,
Robert, think we all go by a standard time set by DG..know if I post as I'm doing now at 5:28 am it shows 6:28am...
Oooohhh celebrating right along with you, we're in the spring month, how exciting is that! Diane picked me up yesterday to go to Fabricland, she glanced at my gardens, I said it was hard to believe that in a few short weeks the snow might be gone, some energetic plants showing themselves but it can happen...last year 3rd week of March I took all the grandchildren to Washington D.C. when we came back I still had a day of vacation, we raked and burnt leaves sooo happy day it is..
Managed to watch the closing of the Olympics, our athletes did us proud!
RABBIT, RABBIT everyone .. May the month of March be a wonderful month for all of you.
Just an awesome day yesterday, watched THE GAME. guess if I had a heart condition I'd know about it fer sure after that LoL.
The closing ceremonies were beautiful, sad, exciting, glitzy and YES .. PATRIOTISM shone brightly.
Diggin .. someone once told me you set your local time zone by going through the PREFERENCE tab in your account, I know I usually have to adjust mine on the time change day.
Busy week here .. and hopefully one in which Lorna finds herself on TWO legs .. fingers crossed on that !!
Take care all

Ohhh look at that 'lapin' lol
"M" you should see me 'crochet' when I'm on edge..lordy a mile a minute, much longer and I'd have had an entire afghan done..lol
It's a glorious day in the neighborhood, you can just tell that spring is on it's way...if I didn't have to go to Michael's for a specific color of wool to finish my 6th afghan I'd be at the Garden Gallery checking the goodies out...
Sure hoping all goes well for Lorna "M"....
Check out this short video. Very funny if you are old enough to understand it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFCCFS_lhA8
LOL!
Good one Ann .. !!! Saw a pic online of someone, I think it was Bing Crosby, balancing an old typewriter on his knees and trying to type .. puts it into perspective ^_^
We're having MONDO melting here .. the temps have been in the +4 range and are expected to hit +10C on Friday !!
The local radio stations, of course, are telling us to NOT count our chickens before they're hatched of course. This area usually sees a dandy storm in March and/or April. Will say, we DO need the moisture.
Today 'should' be the last day for the VON nurse .. that tape burn (rip) has taken in excess of 2 months to heal, but, heal it has !! Going to miss the nurse .. she was a HUGE source of extra encouragement for Lorna.
Have a dental appt on Thursday, am already in fits over it !! My dentist has never hurt me .. but I plain just do NOT like having work done .. hygenist is fine .. but .. he is replacing old fillings .. that requires a NEEDLE .. and I fer SURE do not like it. Once that part is over I can .. well .. 'relax' ..
Have a super day everyone

Forgot to say a VERY happy BDay to BETTY ^_^
~M~
Wow .. what amazing weather here .. was able to get out yesterday and sling the rake around a bit. Trying to clear away the spent sunflower seed shells .. love feeding the birds, but, boy oh boy .. they aren't tidy with their leftovers LoL
LEG day today .. fingers crossed Lorna doesn't end up with ANY issues !!! Am also awaiting news re a jogger who was hit by a tractor trailer on one of the local roads. She was killed. But I am dearly hoping it is not one of the nurses I worked with .. the age (50) is correct, but the name reported .. the first name .. is not .. however, I do know a few people who use their SECOND name as their first name .. spoke with a colleague and she feels one of us would have heard had it have been Cydney .. will likely go up to the unit we worked on to check, while Lorna is doing her physio .
Hope everyone enjoys their day ^_^
~M~
OMG "M" let's hope not..
Prayers for Lorna, let's hope the adjustment period will go without a hitch..
Spring like weather here today as well although it's -5, no signs of snow for the next few days...planning a trip with girlfriends to Buffalo on the 12th, thought when planning I should add 'providing no blizzard conditions' you get carried away thinking spring is here and we're bound to have March weather ..
Got $$$ for my birthday to be spend at Garden Gallery, not sure, might be worth a trip this aft. at lunch..should wait though so real plants/shrubs are ready to plant..what I'd buy today would be purely decorative..
Hope you are enjoying your day..
A lovely Spring day here.
M, hope it's not anyone you know, but we know someone will be grieving. Well, are you home?? Did Lorna get fitted and is she up on 2 feet?
Hope you're all getting Spring weather.
Home with a flourish .. and .. a little smile ... the prosthesis is just a wee bit too big .. will need to be tweaked so as to get the best suction fit .. this is all quite interesting .. when you have never been involved with prosthetics it's kind of mind boggling when you cross the threshold into that realm .. the shop holds prostheses for clients from 3 to 93 .. all in various stages of building/rebuilding .. and only the ONE prosthetist !! He is one busy guy. So .. Lorna is booked for another fitting next week.
As far as I know, the vicitm of the accident is not my colleague .. never did make it up to the unit as the physiotherapist had me bring Lilly in today .. so .. I had my hands full with looking after her .. of course .. she was a STAR LoL
Betty .. you GO GURL and spend that MOOLA ^_^
Betcha you buy some neat stuff .. you always seem to find treasures ..
Enjoy your evening everyone
~M~
"M" so that means she'll be awhile waiting for the upgrade? You just don't think of what's involved do you..must be terribly painful for fresh wounds to be rubbing up against a plastic fiber!
My computer went down yesterday afternoon...it was sick/sick/sick..finally reached my son who was in a meeting to get the ball rolling to fix...finally this morning after his trying to teach an old dog new tricks I'm back on-line..
"M" the cash money I received I'm putting towards an accuquilt..why, I don't know, but you know me and toys...going stateside on the 12th so will pick it up at Joann's..
Already called Timbrr to get 2 louver doors for the basement..I'm laughing, kids think I'm nuts..always a project or 2 ahead of myself..they just don't understand that things have to be done...I'll say like my grandma who raised me and died at 99..'you are a long time dead, use every minute of every day'...
Ohhh it's so like spring..tempted to take all the plastic covering over back deck so I can enjoy the view but know better, we're still in for some major storms I'm sure..no sense tempting Mother Nature!
What are you all up to today...
Hmmm .. Betty .. qu'est que c'est un accuquilt ? LoL .. the LARGE extent of my francais .. but .. what exactly is that?
Good to live everyday to its fullest .. my problem is finding the time to DO it !!!
The whole prosthetic thing is absolutely flippin well remarkable !!! And, with all the soldiers coming home from Afghanistan with amputations, the technology keeps growing. Lorna's 'residual limb' (stump) is completely healed .. she just has a very teeny bit of tape burn left which will not interfere with the prosthesis.
My oh my but we do have spring here .. but .. I darned well know we will get a storm before Easter if not after as well ..
Dental appt today was HORRIFIC!! Have NEVER had an experience like it, and do NOT want another. I am having old fillings replaced. Anyway .. he put the freezing in (worst part for me) .. then .. he and his assistant started to put the dental dam in place. i have a dental dam before .. but .. the tooth being worked on was to the right of the right eye tooth .. so .. they were right over me .. once it was in place .. I suddenly got a rapid heart beat and felt I couldn't breathe .. I kept negotiating with myself trying to calm down, NO DICE, I had to put my hand up .. my dentist stopped, I said 'Put me UP' ( as only a person with a frozen upper lip can say that) he was quite concerned, asked if I had chest pain, which I didn't, I was breathing all wrong .. so .. he took the dam out, and, WOW, I was so much better .. he did his business without it, and, after a hug following the procedure, I admitted I MUST be a 'dentaldamaphobic' and would be looking to start a chapter in Thunder Bay LoL
He siad he thinks I had a PANIC ATTACK .. I really am unsure as I have never had one, AND, I do not want another !!
SO .. enjoy your evening ^_^
~M~
Marilynn
Oh my! reading your dentist thing took me right back to radiation when my head was bolted down so they would hit the same place everytime. Yikes the plastic mold they needed was made with plaster, covered my head, face neck and upper chest. They put a small hole for my mouth but eyes and nose were covered. The plaster dried and shrunk in the 10-15 minutes it was on I almost lost it and when the nurse touched my arm I grabbed her and would not let go till they cut it off!!! It squeezed my face and neck and I felt like I couldn't breath and ever since I have a big fear of being smothered. Sooooo I get the dam thing big time!!!
Anyway the plastic mold for bolting my head was almost see through so it was like a bad movie but now I don't like the lay back thing in the dentist's.
It seems like spring here and snow is going like crazy. After seeing Carol's rhubarb I am jealous of the Calgary weather. The frost was very easy to scrape off my car windows this am and with the light coming early and staying later I know that Spring is close.
Ann
I haveta tell ya Ann .. my Elephant Ear Rhubarb is under, at least, 3' of snow, and, it gets sun most of the day .. I would imagine I could go and perhaps shovel some off, but, I think I'll just let nature take its course as the rhubarb is covered with mulch.
Gawd, I SO feel for you re the radiation mask .. I know NOW, had that been me I would have been OUTTA there !!
I wonder if technology has improved any ? Lorna had the measurements for her leg taken and put into a computer which in turn programmed a machine to make the plastic 'holder' for her stump. It used to be a plaster cast first, and THEN the plastic like your face mask horror.
Today will be a better day .. can't beat temps of +6 to +7C and SUNNY :-)
TGIF folks
~M~
OMG girls, I'm closterphobic (?) not sure how you do it, guess you must when push comes to shove...
Me thinks we are all getting a bit too anxious, calling for 50F this coming weekend...I'm like you "M" gardens are about 3' under snow..might be able to take the outdoor Christmas trees/lights/decorations and put them away but that's the extent..
SOOO tempted to take the plastic covering off the back deck but I know it's a no/no - we're in for a few blizzards yet, however we've only had a few so far - could we be lucky enough to see them pass and miss us!
When I was in Buffalo a few weeks ago bought a metal table/chair set for the back bedroom deck..could put it out, the deck is sheltered, sit and start my tanning..lol..
An 'accuquilt' is a portable 15lb. unit..it has dyes for different quilt blocks..you can put up to 6 layers of material, use the dye of choice and it cuts the design perfectly...you know me and my gadgets...want one badly..Roger would have said, 'she got birthday money that is burning a hole in her pocket' isn't that the truth..why save it, must enjoy today...
In a few swaps I've received packages of seeds, decided this year to just scatter them once frost is over..I don't do well starting them in the house..usually they get leggy and before it's time to set outside they are dead..
Well it only being early March here I m sure we will have more snow but in the meantime it has been warm enough that what snow remains is melting very slowly so no huge lakes in the lanes! Of course it could still happen!
Shopping this morning I bought the vapor barrier plastic for my raised bed greenhouse covers, need to go to a different store for the rebar I will use to hold down the sides. Basically what I am doing is installing half hoops over the beds and then securing heavy plastic over the hoops leaving the ends open for circulation. I plan to put it on the beds early April to warm up the soil and maybe hasten planting. Hope to avoid what happened last year when I seeded everything and then we had a 2 week cold spell and I had to reseed a lot of the veggies.
My little foster Caramel aka Cara is doing nicely. Thinking part of the whining might be gum discomfort I am giving her some Metacam ( left over from Fancy's dental) and that seems to be helping. Also invested in one of the dental sprays that are supposed to help clean off plaque and some small dental type chews to try to improve things a bit for her. She wont chew bones or carrots which I give my dogs.
We dont want to do surgery because there is a good chance she would not survive the anaesthetic. But of course we risk that she will go into kidney failure because of the dental infection. Well whatever she will have a warm, caring and well fed place for whatever remians of her life!
Here she is after her grooming last week!
Carol
She looks adorable! Nothing wrong with a bit-o-drugs if it helps with discomfort.
Is she settling in?
Nice Moose Diggin. Would that be last years babe with mom?
Betty gadgets are wonderfull if you use them and don't just collect em. LOL
My DH's Gma was a collector of the K-Tel adds of the past and when she passed on we found double of everything in her basement with nothing used. We still have a giggle when we talk about it.
Our sun is shinning and it warms you when you stand in it so I know that Spring is around the corner.
Ann
OHMIGOSH Carol .. Cara is just that .. 'beloved' .. I wish her all the best .. she's in good hands ..
Diggin .. we are SUPPOSEDLY 'moose central' here in Ontario .. haven't seen a ONE .. but .. like you and Betty I am fully aware we are fer sure NOT done with winter !!! Hard to believe when you can walk around outside in a Tshirt !!
Had a 'shopping day' today .. trying to free up the weekend .. bought a nice bouquet of fleurs today ^_^
Looks so nice on the kitchen table ..
Hope everyone has a SPLENDIFEROUS weekend !!
~M~
It's a lovely Spring day here, and I hope it is where you are as well.
Yesterday I was out with the dog, near the university. I kept him in the car because there were usually deer where I was heading. While I was dropping someone there, I hear an owl, quite close too. I stayed clear of the doe and her 2 fawns that where laying in the bushes and grass. I did manage to find the owl, a barred owl. I've got a couple of photos.
Great pics Linda .. talk about being in the right place at the right time and WITH a camera !!
There's an owl 'outback' somewhere, can hear it in the evening, no way am I walking back there though ...
Went ot Lorna's bosses place today for the disbursement of effects .. we really hadn't thought we'd be back there again, felt kind of odd, but, it had to be done. Tim left me a beautiful Cinese print of dragonflies (my favourite thing) and some Lake Superior memorabilia, along with a replica of a 'Tall ship' .. Lorna rec'd some beautiful etchings.
Just have to shift some stuff around in order to find these pieces a home ..
It's 12C here .. and i would be outside enjoying, but, we have melting muddy water to contend with right now ..
TTFN

Hello everyone, omg I so loved the pictures you've all taken..talk about wildlife...didn't have my camera with me when I went to Cookstown, forgot it, but lordy saw about 10 of the biggest wild turkey's and a few fawn crossing HWY 93, luckily everyone was enjoying the day and the car ahead of me had ample time to stop..think is they were in the middle of the road, not sure which way to go, cross or go back...what a sight!
It's suppose to be close to 50 tomorrow, want to put away if not too frozen into the ground all the white metal Christmas trees on the front lawn, the Victorian Santa and green tree on front deck..now that's my plan, plans have been known to change so easily..lol
"M" bet you will both cherish what Tim left for you!
Look at Cara, now who wouldn't fall in love...beautiful coat, looks so content...lucky to have found a home with you...
It's only 4:30 and I'm ready for bed, if not bed then feet up and rest..been on the go since 5am..went to visit mom and Jim at the cottage, brought Tim Horton's at 7:30 this morning..left here just after 6:00am..got home and girls were waiting for me to go shopping, of course someone had the bright idea to stop into Cookstown fabric store..got me a new toy..the accuquilter..from the demo it works like a charm.....
Mom gave me all her left over wool so I can do another afghan, then she thought I might not have enough and if she doesn't stop at Micheal and buy more..whole idea was to get rid of leftovers, I could have bought what was required..but that's moms isn't it?
yes annabell that pic was taken last fall, the moma and baby were only about ten feet from me.what you cant see is,there are two more behind her.we had a poor weekend here
alot of frezzing rain, that took down alot of power lines,i heared the ice buildup was the size of a 5 gallon bucket, now thats ice.
This message was edited Mar 9, 2010 12:16 AM
Ohhh freezing rain, that's not good, we had a perfect weekend, high 40's low 50's and much the same today...each day brings up closer to spring..
Linda
Thanks for sharing the Who's Who in your neck of the woods.
He/she looks beautiful, all fluffed and puffy.
Betty, gadgets are great when they have a purpose that fits you.
Yikes freezing rain that's dangerous.
Ann
Whacky weather for sure...
It's currently snowing in Victoria, big fluffy flakes. At least we know it's just a squall and won't last.
Hi everyone ..
SNOW in VICTORIA lordie .. now there's a switch ^_^
We have had ANOTHER awesome and amazing day .. sunny and temps in and around 10 to 12 C !!! Unheard of for March in Tbay.
Kind of a tense time here .. Lorna's Dad is not well, has had a very bad chest cold since last Thursday .. today her parents have gone to the Hosp in Richmond Hill to have things seen to .. have called them several times, no answer, so we are now just doing the 'wait ' thing.
Take care all
~M~
