Another boat headed for the harbor.
Daily Walks - 3
This is the photo we were having a friendly discussion about. You decide. The sun has just set in the center of the photo. So does anyone besides me see the green where it just set?
Please cast your votes! Did I capture the infamous green flash or not?
I will abide by your decision.
This is the last photo for today, and don't worry, I didn't take such a long walk for the rest of my stay. I caught up on my sleep, and quite frankly if I'd known how much my hip was going to be hurting I wouldn't have walked that far in the first place.
More tomorrow, (I hope!)
Note, this finishes off Feb. 7th photos.

Sorry, sweetie---no green flash. I actually saw it a couple of times when we lived in the Caribbean, and there's no mistaking it. It's bright, screaming, kelly green!
Loved your photo tour, as always.....
Ima, have you seen the green flash here? We've seen it a couple of times and didn't think it was that noticeable - especially since it is gone so fast. Maybe in the Caribbean it's brighter?
Great pics, SW. Glad you like the orchid - those blooms should last for months. My red one has bloomed all winter.
I think it's got something to do with the proximity to the equator. I've never seen it in CA, but I don't hang out at the beach, either. There wasn't much choice on an island 7 miles long and 1 1/2 wide!
Jules, I loved walking on the beach with you ! Fantastic shots, thanks for sharing ! I think I'm seeing some very small green spot ...never saw this before! So interesting!
Adina
I thought I saw it too, but it could be just the camera.
I've never seen the green flash, and I can't really call that a green flash, it wasn't that vivid, and I wasn't trying for it, just wanted to get the last rays of light bending over the horizon.
Sometimes my camera doesn't take photos of the colors the way I see them. Drives me nuts. Glad you enjoyed the photos and the walk.
I didn't walk that far again during our stay, and in the interests of getting caught up, I'll be more picky about what gets posted.

Hey SingingWolf! I have been following you on your walks! Just haven't had many spare moments to make posts.
Beautiful photos!
I love the blue and white cineraria in post 7603142 That is what I have always know them as. Now they are called Pericallis and another name. I just sowed a variety of seed which I collected from mine last winter. They were up in only one week. Tiny little things. But they are doing well.
I believe one of the fuchsias you seemed unsure of is Temptation.
And Mrs J D Fredricks has always been one of my most favorites, she gets a special spot in the front yard!

Nice series of pictures.
The rock with the parallel grooves looks like it was drilled so that it could be split.
I think that a lot of "sea glass" comes from inland. People throw bottles anywhere, especially at party spots on empty, dead-end roads, and they eventually get washed into the ocean. If I see a jagged piece of glass on the beach, I'll pick it up and throw it into the recycle bin so some kid doesn't step on it and spoil his day, but myself, I always wear shoes, except in bed and in the shower. I save the rounded ones in a jar. If I ever take a trip up north, I'm going to go here http://www.odditycentral.com/pics/the-glass-beach.html
Thanks CatSmiling and Kelli.
That link to the glass beach is pretty cool. Where is the beach? I guess it's much further north than I usually go, but nature is pretty wonderful.
You know I have watched and yelled at people I have seen deliberately throw and break bottles on the beach at O'side. Then I go shame them and pick up the pieces. Yes, they really do that and they don't understand that it is just plain wrong. Where is a cop when you need one?
I don't doubt a lot of broken glass gets washed downstream too. I found some more broken glass here on the farm the other day. I pocketed it and brought it home and disposed of it properly. Then again, you never know what is going to turn up on one of my walks.
I need to start a new page, but don't have time right now. Hopefully this afternoon . . .

Breaking glass bottles is bad enough, but breaking them where people go around barefoot is the height (or depth) of ignorance.
Glass Beach is near Fort Bragg. I think that is Mendocino County. There is someone on Weather Underground who has posted a lot of very good pictures of it. If you are familiar with that web site, do a search on Fort Bragg, CA in the wunderphotos section.
Have you ever gone to Moonstone Beach at Cambria? They have a lot of really cool pebbles - green, white, red, black, and yellow.
I've got a few hiking pictures from this morning.
yellow violet
Kelli,
Just drove by there on our way back from the Christmas Tree Convention in Monterey. DH got tired of me asking him to stop, but he usually did. I have some photos I hope to post soon from that trip.
Such beautiful wildflowers. I've heard, that when my FIL was a kid that Chocolate Lillies still grew here in Menifee. How a couple of the girls used to wear them as hair ornaments to school. I've never seen one before, and I'll know what to look for now. I do hope you'll get the chance to go back when they are in bloom!
The yellow violet was a real treat. I don't know the names of all the wildflowers out here (someone stole that book from the library!) The star lily is gorgeous, and I have never seen a fuchsia flowering gooseberry. Can you buy those, I wonder? WoW!
I do have one book but it doesn't show all of them. The most useful book for identifying wildflowers has turned out to be the "Weed Book". I guess one person's weed is another's wildflower.
It's time to start a new thread for our dial up friends. Please feel free to participate, your comments and photos of your own walks are appreciated too. : - )
This is where we are going to: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1080579/
Kelli, I'm glad you explained the mystery grooves in that one rock. That's what DH thought.
Great photos from your walk, Kelli! : - )
Kelli, thanks for sharing your photos, I am sending people back from the new page of this thread to look at them.
Thanks too, to all of you who share your thoughts with us. Now get your camera's out for your next walk~

I'm guessing that a native plant nursery would probably carry fuchsia-flowering gooseberry, but I don't know. I've never looked for one. I've found that the wild plants are less special if I have them at home.
Lol as usaul singingwolf. You are so great with your camers surprised some newspaper or even where you spending time hasn't offered you ajob with the beauty you capture as front page for them.
Hope all is going okay for you and I am so ready to see flowers in bloom of course my daff's are blooming so thats a plus hope spring hurries up.
Hug's,
Carolyn
Been there, done that, DREAMS. They don't pay for both my gas and film. Yeah, I know I can use digital now, but it is more fun when I get to choose the subject of the photo.
